Music Company break in caught on camera

Officers hold down the suspect as they check the inside of the store.

A 17 year old intoxicated male was seen stumbling down Detroit avenue, asking for money, drugs and cigarettes around midnight on Friday the 27th of October.

A group of Lakewood teens were approached by the individual, and after he was told to leave them alone he became violent, he grabbed and put a girl in a head lock.

He then continued his rampage by trying to break into cars behind the Music Company and the Party Station parking lot, and made his way into the front of the Music Company store. The teens, who were sitting by Phoenix, flagged down a police officer who then called for back up.

The male only shattered the glass door before Lakewood Police showed up and arrested the teen. He had just been released out of jail recently on separate charges, but is now back in jail.

Rick:

You are right.

Politicians need to evaluate and articulate effective policing strategies rather than argue over FBI stats, which capture felonies, I believe, only one measure for the chaos we behold in our midst.

Generally speaking, FBI stats are subject to such variables as patrol strength and the law department’s bargaining for pleas, which can be reduced from a felony.

Patrol strength on the streets is one of the critical steps to solving these problems of disorder.

I do not believe the twelve hour shift street patrolman are currently working will provide the quality of attention needed for the long haul.

I think one positive that can be seen here was the cooperation between the group of teens and the police, who together, got someone who was a danger to himself and others off the street and hopefully into some sort of program to deal with drug and alcohol abuse.

I know people love the DARE program but study after study says it has no lasting impact. I've always felt those resources would be better spent on a program more focused on building a sustained partnership between young people and police. Children need to know that they can be part of the solution and understand that they can help the police, that being called a snitch is just an intimidation tactic, and that while saying no to drugs, they can also say no to the bully and know the police will be there for them.

Outstanding photo-journalism Ivor!

I am certain that Eisenstaedt would be very proud of you.

You are carrying on the best of that tradition.

From one photo-journalist to another.

Carry that baton forward.
