Phone & ISP options?

Post by Jeff Dreger »

Are there any local choices for basic land-line telephone service and/or high-speed internet service? I currently have AT&T for both local phone service and DSL. Recently I've had one too many instances of lousy service and I'm looking for something different/better. What do other folks use or recommend? If possible, I'd like to spend no more than I do now ($20 dsl; $30 phone) and less would be even better - I don't need any bells and whistles. Since my wireless phone service is with AT&T as well and that contract is up I'd be open to any suggestions there too.

Thanks for your help.

I have Direct TV but use Cox Cable for my internet and telephone. If you go to the Cox Cable web site then you should be able get a good deal on pricing.

You could look at Sage Telecom. We use them for phone service. They have dsl.

We remember the att monopoly when Lily Tomlin joked, We don't care, we don't have to: we're the phone company.

Recently Cavalier Telecom has entered the fray and I looked up reviews of their service. Every review mentioned the lack of customer service and all the problems. Their info went to the recycling box.

We used to have Earthlink, which was reliable but expensive for dsl.

We use Ameritech DSL and AT&T for phone, or whatever they are calling it now, and are less than satisfied with the "service". When it works, it works but when we've had problems, the problems have been terrible and the support less than the money's worth, from what we've been hearing from other people.

I didn't think there were any other options around here. I just switched from AT&T DSL to Cox service... I use them for TV and Internet and my cell is my "main line" now.

No issues with Cox so far...pretty fast!

Same here. Only one outage in 3 years and they gave me a month of free service for it. :D
