Hazelwood Avenue

Post by Beajay Michaud »

Last night at approx 1:55 AM I was woken up by a loud disturbance in my front yard. 4 or 5 Black males were holding down another black male and beating the crap out of him. At one point they were all sitting on him and beating him. They all hand on long over sized white t-shirts and jeans.

When the first officer arrived it looked like the black males were getting ready to attack him. Then a second officer came up and went running over. Then the thugs started chasing the two officers down the street (West on Hazelwood). I was still on the phone with Lakewood Police giving play by play. Next the thugs started running East on Hazelwood and South on Clearence. Next It looked like most of Lakewood's Police Dept were on our street. They had most of the thugs in hand cuffs.

A group of people from Clearence came down and started yelling at the officers not to lock up the thugs that were fighting. Two of the men in hand cuffs were let go and started bragging how they can't be touched.
I don't understand. :?

I have to say it must of taken great restraint on the Officers not to drawn their weapons.

Is there anyway I can find out what was really going on, it looked like it may have been a gang initiation. My husband thought that he over heard one of the officers state that one or more of them lived on Eddy Road.

Just to clarify, the thugs were chasing the officers? Sounds like a time for tasers... :?

beajay,

I would suggest talking at the next city council meeting. State specifically what you saw, as you did here. Then ask the chief to clarify what happened. Let the members of council hear first hand what you witnessed.

I and my husband would both be happy to tell what we saw. Because truthfully I was in disbelif  when I saw the 2 officers running from the Men. 911 dispatch would certainly have a tape of the phone call last night. Like I said we were giving the dispatcher play by play.

No guns were drawn. Good police work. Although I'm sad to think that it is right around the corner from me where they came from. My daughter asked if those bad people live in the Apartments and if it was safe to walk by there during the day.

Thank God the officers involved did not shoot the thugs who were threatening them... We do not pay our police officers enough... I am glad that we have some level headed thinking officers protecting our city..

I would have preferred reading the officers shot these young "thugs", once they were being chased.

When reinforcements arrived they should have at least beaten the perps with clubs. This particular situation warrants it.

I'm not an advocate of police violence. But sometimes it is justified.

No sensible judge or jury should find fault with that.

Ryan,

You know that response is going to cause people to go bonkers on this thing.

Before we get into advocating what police reactions are correct and the thread blows up, I would really like to find out the truth behind this incident.

Here is the short version from Capt. Hassings on last night event.

Alcohol Involved!

One male causing a disturbance with girlfriend. Two males take him away from her take him outside and hold him down on the lawn.

Police come and handcuff all. then the story is told and all agree. Two are released from handcuffs, and they proceed to arrest the very drunk person being held down.

Then one of them get in the face of the police, I did not hear the word chased. The police then arrest a second person for disorderly conduct.

They all get upset.

NONE live in Lakewood, they were there visiting the guy's girlfriend when it all started.

No one hurt, two in jail.

Rick

While we can all call these isolated incidents and they really are, it seems impossible to separate the stress of everyday life from the country and the region.

What worries me and others is that there is no end in sight anywhere in the country from these stresses.

This is yet another reason we look for an over whelming show of police on the streets.

Once again the police do a great job.
