I had an enlightening talk with Keep Lakewood Beautiful about recycling. It seems that we've been behind the times in what we can and cannot recycle regarding plastics. The not-so-new rule is tht we don't have to look for numbers and that tubs are out, but anything plastic with a neck is ok.

I thought we were reading our recycling flyer, but evidently we're not reading for content!

dl

Where can I find out what is recyclable?

I only save the 1 and 2 plastics. Does this mean those "7" ketchup bottles can also be recycled? And what are "tubs?"

By neck, would that mean that a Hellman's mayo container is no longer collected?

Call refuse & recycling at 252.4322, or Gail Higgins at 529.6170. Gail and Maria Parke, my dear former neighbors, were bringing me up to speed.

From what I understood, the Hellman's and the ketchup bottles can be recycled and numbers don't matter.

Tubs would include stuff like the plastic frozen food containers (even if they are #2). We never recycled margarine containers (I'd call that a tub, too) because most of them are #5.

But no more standing under a "good" light with my glasses off trying to read a tiny litle number.
