The Lakewood Observer Entertainment Division is hard at work for next year. We had so much fun this year working with the Library on Harry and the Potters, and the Car Show we thought we might try to expand/duplicate the effort.

So if we could add one FREE music show to the list of events, what would you like to see.

Example - Hot Tuna

If we were to add one more street event to the program, what would you like to see?

Example - Colorful human snake dance down Detroit.(already suggested!)

The Lakewood Observer staff and Entertainment Division is all about making life in the Wood more enjoyable.

How about Lakewood's own Brandtson? They're probably one of the more popular bands around here...

They were one of the reasons why I moved to Lakewood. We grew up together in Elyria.

Music: I am always up for hearing more from the Lakewood Project (when will they do "Pictures of Matchstick Men"??? Or anything by Fairport Convention??) but I also enjoyed the Market Day festivities down at the West Side Market on Saturdays. Lots of music, tables of stuff to buy (or avoid) and just a great atmosphere. Maybe something along those lines here? How about some barbershop quartets?

Street Event: A parade ala the now defunct Doo-Dah parade from the Columbus area (the Short North District) or a West Side version of Parade the Circle. Both are highly supported volunteer affairs. The former was a sort of anti-parade but a ton of creative ideas and a lot of fun to watch (and, I would assume, participate in). Scavenger hunt? Silly games like we used to play (or make fun of) in college, like bed races down Detroit?

While I agree that Pictures of of Matchstick Men would sound great coming from The Lakewood Project, and who doesn't like Dave Slife's Barbershop Quartet when they sing on Sunday night. I was looking for something different from what we are normally offered. A music act(s) that we would normally have to pay money to see and offer to the community for FREE.

I have some ideas that I carry in my ipod, but most people are not into the stuff on my ipod, so it was thought to throw invites open. I am a little amazed at some of the rap stars that were emailed to me.

While on the street I have been working with two women, one wants Detroit shut down one night for a big band dance party. Another is looking at the parade of Spring.

Lakewood Motoring Society is moving the rally to the spring, and the Car Show is going through a major revamping, and will be enlarged. Between running out of room and national attention, it will need more space. As the LO builds these groups that have learned to put these events on, we would like to grow the events and move them around the city.

Shameless plug but seems to fit in this thread.

My wife and I are currantly putting together a 5 piece band, with some real animals. Note for note, these guys stand up with the best in the country, as you'll hear for yourselves. Blues, classic R&B, some top 10, and whatever else we can get away with. ZZ Top, BB King etc, plus surprises of course.
(Can't give too much away material wise), sort of tailored for the Wood bars,
and anywhere else in the Wood.

Btw, we too can also play some Vivaldi, Ravel, Bernstein, Earth, Wind and Fire, Barbra Streisand, Beyonce, Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, just about anything if it came up.


We could always use help on a name for the band. Any suggestions?

I'd like to see Anteus Dance perform at Lakewood Park.

There have been requests for the Lakewood Project, but there are lots of musical groups and choruses in the city schools. I'd love to see them perform at Lakewood Park as well.

I'd like to see a whole weekend where Detroit Avenue is shut down for the Arts Festival, where local Indy films are played in the library, where there's a whole block of local artists featured, where the school kids play during the day and local bands play at night.

Might be closer to the truth than you think.

Still, I am thinking of a group(s), we would normally have to pay money to see. something nice, that builds the brand. "Friday night with Bela Fleck at Lakewood Park." Something along those lines. "Saturday Afternoon with the Meat Purveyors." (my new favorite)

Bass player from "My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult" just moved to town. A great party band. No I take that back, just a great band.

If you remember from my club days I always had a couple local bands open for the big headliner act.

What I was thinking of was.

A national/international act that would draw, with some Lakewood based bands opening up.

Just thinking out loud.

I wanted to do a rap show, and some one said why not ask others.

how about some jazz? I was down at the west side market one beautiful summer morning, and there was a great jazz band playing...

forgot the name, it was a while ago, which I know doesn't help... but they played jazz.

This is going to be a tough one Jim, because everyone's got different tastes and would like to see different things. Just in these few responses, you're seeing a wide diversity of ideas, and when you add in national groups, it gets even bigger and more diverse!

My own suggestions would be perhaps an ethnic festival, featuring musical acts reflecting Cleveland's diversity, but also featuring a variety of ethnic foods, crafts, dance, etc. Lakewood's a very diverse place, with strong Irish and Eastern European roots ... let's celebrate that!

And in terms of musical acts, let's go for a big Irish musical group, like the Chieftains, or on a smaller level, Great Big Sea or Gaelic Storm!
