Ohio Solar Tour Dawns, Statewide

Hundreds of Renewable Electricity Sites Featured Oct. 7 and 8
(Columbus) “Solar Toursâ€Â￾ will be conducted throughout Ohio on Oct. 7 and 8 to highlight existing sources of renewable energy. Sponsored by the non-profit clean energy advocate, Green Energy Ohio (GEO), the tours are free and open to the public, encompassing sustainable energy sources beyond solar. They will highlight scores of solar, wind, biomass, green design and energy-saving technologies.

GEO Executive Director, Bill Spratley, said “Most people don’t know that many clean energy installations exist in Ohio, which is the value of the Ohio Solar Tour to show real places for real people.â€Â￾

“People will learn that Ohio already has commercial solar electricity, a utility grade wind farm, a manufacturer of solar roofing and even a sizable wind turbine in downtown Cleveland at the Great Lakes Science Center,â€Â￾ said Spratley. “Elsewhere, we have solar homes, businesses,
schools, bus stops, libraries and even traffic lights and flashing stop signs. This is a great opportunity for everyone to see how and where clean electricity is being generated,â€Â￾ he said.

Tours will be held in northeast, northwest, central, southwest and southeast Ohio on either Saturday or Sunday, Oct. 7 and 8. Site owners and GEO members will conduct tours at many sites which will be open to the public at specified times. Guided tours to selected sites will be
available in some areas, either with provided transportation or personal vehicles. The tours are free and a regional solar tour guidebook will provide information about the tour.

Many local health food stores and selected public places are distributing the guidebooks which include travel directions and information on 19 tours that feature renewable energy and energy efficient homes, commercial buildings and parks. The tour book contains information about all of the sites. The guidebooks are free and available on the GEO website at <www.GreenEnergyOhio.org> or by calling the GEO office at 1-866-GREEN-OH (toll free).

The Ohio tour is part of the 11th annual National Solar Tour sponsored by the American Solar Energy Association (ASES).

Green Energy Ohio (GEO) is a nonprofit organization that promotes economically and
environmentally sustainable energy policies and practices in Ohio. GEO is the Ohio Chapter of
the American Solar Energy Society and the local host of the SOLAR 2007 conference in
downtown Cleveland from July 7-12, 2007.

Northeast Ohio tours will take place on Saturday and Sunday, October 7 and 8, 2006 in Cleveland, East-of-Cleveland, Oberlin, Mansfield, Akron, Wooster and surrounding areas.

Seven tours feature solar and wind installations and energy efficient buildings including home residences, a brewery company, public and commercial buildings, a church, schools, parks, and a nature center. A special guided tour is scheduled to view research facilities for alternative
energy at NASA Glenn on Friday, October 6, 2006.
