TO CLARIFY..I DID NOT WRITE THE FOLLOWING. IT WAS POSTED ON THE BUZZ' WEBSITE....
AND SOMEONE SENT IT TO ME...I,OF COURSE,WAS NOT ON THE SITE MYSELF.....
..............."I think The Buzz is a great site for catching the latest news of what is going on in Lakewood. What we also need is a newspaper that is going to report hard news. Most of the people in the city have no idea what is going on. The Mayor and his cronies must love this set up. West life doesn't cover Lakewood, The Plain Dealer seems to have forgotten Lakewood and the Sun Post is a door mat. Do we have any real journalist in the area any more? It isn't all smiles and hugs in this city!
The hard news is what will shape your city for the better; it keeps the politicians from running over the people. Right now, it's scary that our city of 55,000 has mostly become blind and deaf.
Calling all journalist-where are you? We need news that is accessible to all-the newspaper is the most common form of inexpensive communication. Maybe all our journalists our on the take-don’t care or something. I remind you people who call yourself reporters or journalists, you’re are not a just a mouthpiece for city hall or the board of education. Did you ever hear of asking questions and investigating?
Strange how that Buzz poster is completely out of the loop and decides to demonstrate it on the very same day that the Free Times writes an article about us!!!

Well, it seems that a few people have tried to tell this buzz poster about the only newspaper in town but the replys have been blocked it evidently because of the words "LAKEWOOD OBSERVER" ...
I tried to post it two seperate times and it never made it.
Someone has started another thread on the buzz about the words being blocked...very funny
That's OK we ready to print a "reader's guide" to the Buzz letting you know who all the faux posters are. Time we talk about the problems of this city in the light of day. Guess who has 4 names on the Buzz?
Let's rock and roll.

Just think had it been only the Buzz. Brother Petty would still be farming Lakewood's children as he had for the two years prior to the Observer. As pointed out in the Free Time, the only rule that stopped him was our single rule. so if you want to talk about Lakewood and get news from? you have that choice.
NO HIDING BEHIND FAUX NAMES.

To be fair, we blocked the phrase "Lakewood Buzz" for a while. We were called on it and unblocked that phrase. I think we automatically changed it to "another forum." We never stopped discussion about it, though.

To be even fairer we blocked it after we found out they were blocking The Observer. Then we took the higher ground and unblocked it.

At the other 'site, it's way beyond "blocking". Now all posts are reviewed by the SYSOP before they go up. Yesterday, I answered Will Spillard's post (see John's original, above) with a simple message along these lines:
"Will:
You may want to check out this week's Free Times. There's a story that might interest you."
It was pulled down and gone in five minutes or less.
So I go back today, and there is a thread about blocking, trigger words and link spamming. I wrote the following reply:
"I replied to Will's original post using no trigger words, links or mentions of other Lakewood media. Only a reference to the F_ree T_imes.
What's happening to The Buzz, Steve?"
Four hours later it was never posted.
Today when I hit the submit button, a disclaimer popped up stating:
"Thanks for contributing to this LakewoodBuzz.com Moderated Forum.
After the Buzz SYSOP approves it, your post will appear in the Forum. Thanks for your Patience!
Then there is a post by SYSOP:
"Thank you for contributing to this forum. Unfortunately, your post will not be displayed until after it is approved by community administrators, because one or more trigger words were used in your post.
If and when the community administrators approve your post, it will appear in the forum."
I don't see how a front page that says "Suspect Caught" (the story of the rapes going around Lakewood) isn't anything but hard news.
or the whole paper we devoted to all the issues that were on the ballot in this city and explaining each one so that every reader can know what they're voting for. that's NOT hard news?!?
that wasn't about hugs and smiles-
but us getting recognition outside of Lakewood and having a great staff that does the dirt digging is
ohhhhh

The Lakewood Buzz now edits and approves every message. The Lakewood Buzz now will no longer list any message with Free Times, The Lakewood Observer, and other "competitors." The Lakewood Buzz has a couple people filtering everything to make sure it follows their agenda. The Lakewood Buzz has grabbed many of our news stories and without any credit ran them. We are currently investigating a story on our front page they had no access to but within minutes of us posting it it appeared almost word for word on their front page. It is pitiful.
The Lakewood Observer is not afraid of mentioning or WORKING WITH any other news source in town. We have worked with members of the Free Times and The Plain Dealer, never even asking to see or hear the story before it was written. We are currently working on a story with The Scene, The Free Times and Cleveland Magazine. All names will be featured in the story.
The Lakewood Observer gives space to ANY civic group, any church, ALL schools and government offices at NO CHARGE with NO AGENDA. The Lakewood Observer is the 5th largest newspaper in Northern Ohio, the only paper in Lakewood and Lakewood's most popular website. There is NO CENSORSHIP, there is no pre-editing, no agenda, and no single person that has absolute say in the board, the paper or any of the civic projects we are planning for the summer. The Lakewood Observer has started to fund and financially back civic groups, projects and events that make Lakewood a better place to live, work and play.
We are so open that before LakewoodBuzz's last attack on open source and the residents and businesses of Lakewood, we had advertised the Lakewood Buzz Poetry Reading at Bela Dubby. Go look on the calendar, January 13th. I would hope this would underline and highlight just how closed minded the LakewoodBuzz is. As we advertise their events, they are afraid to even allow the word Observer on their site. their paranoia is so strong they will not even allow the name of a Cleveland Paper The Free Times, that mentions both the Lakewood Observer and the Lakewood Buzz in the same story. It is pitiful.
The Lakewood Observer was set-up to not infringe on a single part of the Lakewood Buzz's product, after meeting with Steve Fitzgerald and talking indepth about the LakewoodBuzz and the Lakewood Observer. Actually Steve was invited to the party and walked away.
The Lakewood Observer was never set up as a NEWS paper. Read our mission statement, no where does it mention NEWS/REPORTING. The Lakewood Observer was started to bring the city together, to move the city forward, and to help this city know itself better than any city has ever known itself. On every point we are succeeding, on every point we are getting kudos from all over the country and the world. We have been asked to start other Observers in other cities but for now we are concentrating on Lakewood. Lakewood is our home, it is where our friends live. It is where our families live. It is where we decided to make our stand.
However, we have moved into hard hitting news. Nothing proves the value of the Lakewood Observer more than taking a serial pedophile off the street. The police now think he might be the most prolific pedophile of all time. Where was the LakewoodBuzz breaking that story? We are currently working on three very large stories, all will be picked up by other news sources, as we have spoken with them and WORKED with them.
So you can go get you HARD HITTING REAL NEWS STORY from "Bun E. Rabbit" over at the LakewoodBuzz, or here, from a person using their real name, that is a neighbor and someone you know. But I promise you one thing, when we run the story it will run with solutions, it will highlight ANY positive side to the story. Because at the Lakewood Observer we try very hard not to shit where we sleep, work and eat.
This newspaper, and this board belongs to me in name only. In truth, it is the city of Lakewood's, it belongs to the residents, the schools, the businesses everyone. My voice is but one voice in this city and on this board, and I would have it no other way. Together with facts, information and WORKING TOGETHER is the only way to move this city forward. Throwing rocks hiding under hoods is no way do business.
I cannot believe that any civic group, business, school or resident would even be part of that control what alone put their name on it! I would like to ask the honorable, open door mayor, Tom George, "What is it like, fighting for an open door policy at city hall while you get attacked by Bun E. Rabbit, Miles Long, and I. P. Knightly?" (Faux names were used to protect the faux names). To me it is like arguing with puppets! One step from the coat you need help getting out of.
Peace/Love

very well said Jim
what hard news really does go on in Lakewood? sure there's sports, and every now and then something happens where theres actually an investigation going on... other than that this city is pretty peaceful i must say.
just by working with you guys i can say i know this city in ways that I've never thought possible, I've met people i never thought i could meet, I've experienced things in this city that i never thought existed.
whenever something big does happen, we cover it. other than that its mostly about pointing out the good this city has, not the depressing hard news that sometimes go on...
if we wanted that we'd be like 90% of the other TV stations or publication in the world, but we're not. we've got something unique going here and we should continue it without a doubt because Lakewood needs a paper devoted to Lakewood.

Question posed, how do we know if a new name is really the person who registered? Is John Smith (for the sake of discussion) really John Smith or really Lebron James? (first name to come to my mind, just saw a pair of sneakers he endorses on TV ).
To our knowledge only two people have ever used a fake name here. One is in jail, the other is Whiteline from the Buzz who is registered here as Hector Lineblanca. He cannot post, but will always have a place in our heart.
Anyone can read the board without posting anyway.
