Lakewood Buzz -- heavily censored

I was curious as to whether this board is as censored as the Lakewood Buzz is. But now I see alot of the same posters, so I assume it is.

Does this board penalize diverse opinions, as they do?

Please don't misunderstand the tone of this post -- I am just curious.

Well, I got my answer pretty fast. I couldn't make it through my very first post without being censored!

I guess we're not allowed to say the "B**zz" word. So don't talk about bees. Or haircuts. Or a certain astronaut.

What you post is associated with your name, and your name only.

The list of "edited" words is so abstract you would find hard to believe. "Mr._Lombardo" is changed to homeowner, at his request. "Silva_Spotts_Weber" is changed to neighbor at her request. This was from the Lombardo house wars.

As for the word BUZZ, as you can see it works fine. However I have been told by many that EVERY post about the Observer has been deleted on other Lakewood boards. So how is that for freedom, respect, and honesty? Which is more serious, changing a word, or deleting a whole thread or note because ONE Person does not agree with, or might agree with but finds slightly counter productive to HIS single minded agenda?

Censorship, not here. Real names taking ownership of real thoughts in real time.

Thanks for joining and the note, but you sure got this group wrong. Now let's see what you have. Or are you done talking about Buzz Aldrin, Buzz Flatops and BUZZ (hide behind many fake name boards)?

Now I hope you share the love and go knock down the walls on the board with real censorship, with members afraid of the light of day.

Where is Bob White, Eagle, Hawk, Just Me, Whiteline, IMBZB, Sunny Skye, Emmet Domain, Very Independent, and others that feel it is better to attack with a faux name?

No, people that have signed on to the Observer have elevated the level of discussion to new highs in Lakewood. They are proud of their comments, thoughts and visions. Only a fool would carry on a conversation with someone named "Sunny Skye."

We only had one person that demanded a FAUX name, Brother Petty, a person now sitting in county jail charged with 35 counts of rape against autistic boys age 10 and 11. When you get back to your other board, you might want to bring up why people need to hide?

One reason this board was created was the other board insisted on FAUX NAMES, and at least 308 people thought Lakewood was worth more.

We do change the name of another online forum but do not censor posts discussing it. The Observation Deck tries to be sensitive to personal attacks, but since participants in this board use their names and are responsible for their comments, that really hasn't been a problem.

There is no censoring of diverse opinions.

If a business is doing something for the good of the community or for charity, we'll talk about it. We do like to talk about our advertisers, too.

The Lakewood Observer and the Observation Deck welcome different points of view. The Observer is driven by volunteer writers. We are always looking for contributions and I have heard our publisher beg people who disagree with something that appeared in the paper to submit an article expressing their point of view.

The Lakewood Observer can only publish what we receive.

The Lakewood Observer's Mission Statement says, "We intend to open a space for long running dialogue with everyone who works, lives, or plays in the great city of Lakewood."

We mean it.

It is a touchy subject if you knew the full history of what you mentioned and the trouble we went through to make it different. I get very protective when you go after friends who have built an entire program on open source, respect, trust and the belief that real issues need real conversations with real people.

But I am glad you joined, and brought it up.

Now I look forward to what else you bring to the table.

I don't think you can fairly claim that no high level discussions can take place when people use nom de plumes. Atrios springs to mind, for one. Some people blog using false names as if their political or other views were known to their bosses, they might get fired. I don't think the attachment of our real name necessarily gives more weight to our writings, though each person is free to make their website use what name rules they wish.

I tend to disagree, but that is only my opinion after being involved in boards since the start of the net back in the 80s. EVERY board I have been on that offers faux names either dies from faceless attacks at one point or becomes so heavily censored it becomes a joke. This would be true for other boards in this city.

As for as people getting fired for political, religious or other views there are laws that address those problems. No matter we do not ask for them to join, they are free to lurk or send letters to the editor.

However I still maintain what good is an idea, if a person does not want to take ownership? Free advice is nearly worthless, FREE advice from 8GD8 or "Emmet Domain" is even more worthless.

At this time in Lakewood's future, we need a serious discussion with serious people.

No matter, go to any other board and run your stuff with a faux name. Here we only have one rule, and that rule is based on respect.

This is certainly a free world, and you can visit any board you like. But this board will continue to be sterile and dry, and I don't think you're going to be much participation.

I visit many bulletin boards. Some are horrid, but I read them anyway! They're fun! And educational about human nature, that's for sure. And they have been around for many years. My favorite board (about horses) is also heavily censored, but there are over 3000 members, the majority of them who post regularly. Don't have to use your real name for either one of them.

i find real names refreshing. so many people hide behind fake names and just foam at the mouth thinking their anonomous title protects them. i like to see who really has balls

Don't fall for it. If Mar is indeed his real name, is troubled.

He started a thread about censorship and found none. Doesn't get it.

Complained about censorship then touts his favorite horse board that heavily censors. Obviously mixed up.

Needs to hide, and screams looking for others that have to hide to talk. Doesn't get it.

Can't cope with one simple rule, needs to hide, sneak, pervert, complain. doesn't get it.

As he points out there are many other boards, where he can hide, attack, and say things that are not true.

Doubt that the check of Mar will find anything more than a faux name.

The reason we should ask ourselves is why does one come into a group, make false accusations, whine and need to preach the opposite?

Who knows, but he is certainly entitled to his comments.

I just wish he would read what he spews.

PS - there is a thread on Section 8 housing already started by people that are proud of their thoughts and do not feel the need to hide.
