Jay and Lakewood Alive--

I've been reading much about the opportunity presented to Lakewood by our connections to CitiStat.

This, in my mind, is an excellent opportunity for our city to prove we are willing to explore cutting edge technologies and processes that will serve us well into the future.

I encourage all interested Observers to reach out into their social networks and inform people about this upcoming meeting!

Last weekend I was talking about Lakewood Alive and the upcoming CitiStat meeting to friends from Y Adventure Guides and they were VERY interested--and also unaware.

Don't assume people know about this, go out and tell them!

This is what it is all about, taking the lead on forming the future for Lakewood.

For an early look at the program in Baltimore and some examples of the reports each department makes to the mayor's office, here's the city's site on CitiStat:

Jay:

Do you think there is any chance the City will share data on overtime, absenteeism, wages, benefits and productivity with the citizens?

Without transparency Citistat will not work.

Bill

I am will you. While much of this should be in records anyway. I always wonder what will happen with the numbers. Who gets to see them and why? While working for a large company I would often be asked to take numbers and graph them so they look good. It is very easy.

Recently a group tried to claim one section of the city was blighted because of crime in the area. When the numbers were broken free, it was found out that the numbers had nothing to do with the area they wanted to tear down, but the bars on the other side of the street, and the close proximity to the city's border.

It will be interesting to see what happens once the numbers come in.
