Around 1:30 am near the corner of Franklin and Riverside Drive, you could hear some voices
talking loudly, some yelling, one muffled. Then, "I found her!" I got dressed to walk out
and see if I could help and you could hear the first siren coming.

The police arrived and everyone was looking over, and you could hear the excitement in
their voices as they all were yelling.

As Lakewood Fire Department quickly arrived, and sprang into action.

About 1/3rd of the way down the sheer canyon cliff was a young women.

She signaled up that she was OK. She had been walking along the rim of the canyon, when
as often happens ground gave way and off she went! Luckily, when she fell, she was at one of
the few places along the cliff where she could slide and stop. Other places she would have
fallen a hundred feet into the water or onto rocks.

Lakewood Fire Department puts ropes in place, and get ready to go over.

Scared, tired and a little embarrassed she waits, as she was told, without moving.

Over the wall and into the darkness a fireman rappels down to her.

He reaches her and checks her out.

It is pretty steep and it's all shale, so if you move, you slide, if you climb, you slide.

She assures her rescuer that she is OK, and she will try to climb out.

On top, the rescuers wait.

She gets ready to come up.

Amazing resilience, as she heads to the surface.

Concerned friends wait.

She is nearly out.

Back to the rim of the canyon, where the ordeal started.

Fire and police help her over.

She was taken to a waiting ambulance, while Lakewood Fire packs up.

GREAT WORK LAKEWOOD FIRE AND POLICE!
She got up, was checked out and released. Shaken and slightly embarassed she left with
her friends. As one officer mentioned, "She got very lucky, and she did a great job in a
bad situation. It could have been much worse."
Indeed, circled is where she stopped in the fall.
