Happy 4th of July!

Post by Michael Deneen »

For most people, Independence Day is not the biggest holiday of the year.
However, I believe that it is the most "Lakewood" holiday of the year.
The annual parade, park concert, and fireworks are the highlight of Lakewood's social calendar.

Hopefully I will see you tomorrow at the festivities.
If not, please have a safe and happy holiday.
Don't blow off any fingers.

Indeed, the city with the same density of LA, and the same mindset as Mayberry RFD, really
comes alive with the 4th of July.

10:00AM
Come on down to Lake Road and catch the parade, a great Norman Rockwell moment, as
the massive small town parade wanders from Kenneth east to Lakewood Park.

The Lakewood Observer is last in the parade, as usual, kind of like cleaning up after the
elephants. And if you are not walking with anyone else, and want to try the surreal piece
of Americana called the 4th of July Parade, get up and join with us. You can watch and
enjoy the entire parade, then get up join in. It is that simple, in this walkable city.

Or, if you have been pressured by one or more groups with, "well of course you are
marching with so and so..." and you just don't need the pressure, come walk with us,
we represent everyone, and every group, so there is no peer pressure with the Observers.

Have a happy safe 4th of July.

Another great tip:

If you're marching with another group, double back and join the Observer when you're done.

You can watch the parade go by as you double back west, and you can "bring down the curtain" with the LO Crew.

Hopefully Steve Davis will riding his bike.

Special invitation for Deck posters (and readers)-- if you'd like to meet
some of the folks you've been talking to, in person, join us
in the parade. We have a great time walking and talking on the
parade route.

Go to the end of Webb (that's north) to meet up with the
Observer crew lining up at our spot at the end of the
parade. Between 9:30 and 10am tomorrow (Sat)
morning.

It's a great way to begin celebrating Independence Day.

See you there.
