Reaching out for help

Post by Alex Belisle »

I've reached out to my NYC newspaper contacts re: Lakewood Hospital

Here's an email I sent to Reed Abelson who wrote a piece about the Cleveland Clinic:

"There's a potential Pulitzer Prize story waiting for you in Lakewood, OH where there is a valiant grass roots campaign to save Lakewood Hospital from the ravages of the Cleveland Clinic. I just moved from NYC to Lakewood and I used to work as a freelance photographer for the NYCNG and I see this as a great story about how these medical behemoth conglomerates are trying to steamroll small communities so that they can reach out and make more money in more affluent areas. in this case tearing down Lakewood Hospital and building a new one in Avon, OH"

Here's a link to his article:

Thanks for weighing in and thanks for the link.

When the Plain Dealer reported on the lawsuit filed against the Clinic they only did one short story that didn't even mention the Cleveland Clinic. There is a big story there if anyone is interested.

The Times article mentioned that the Cleveland Clinic's facility that replaced Huron Hospital offers cooking classes and treatment for sore throats and sprained ankles. Is that what they have in mind for Lakewood?

This whole Thing is so insane its driving me crazy!
