Ice Dams Have Fire Department On Their Toes

From the Rocky River side of the river, you can see the problem building. As I arrived on
the scene at Eddie's Boat Dock, Fire Chief Gillman was just pulling away, but said, "It
shouldn't be a problem if the ice keeps moving."

Not bad yet.

Rocky River Prosecutor and Assistant Law Director Michael O'Shea takes a break between meetings to check out the river.

The ice is between 14"-24" thick.

And here is the problem, the mouth of the river has not yet broken up.

About 600 yards of ice between the dam and open water.

It should be ok, carry on.

When was this?
I was just down there (between the 0 and 1.5 mile markers on the all purpose trail) and it seemed like the river was flowing fine.

Yesterday, on the other hand, there were lots of huge ice chunks, and the river bottled up just north of the bridge across from the dog park.
