Last Weekend! Too Much

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

WHAT DID YOU DO SATURDAY?

Image
LakewoodAlive's Housing Outreach Director Allison Urbanek and her group of volunteers
found and painted another house in need of care and paint. While most of us were out
doing what we want, this crew helped another neighborhood retain its property value, and
come together in the best ways a community comes together to help each other.
LakewoodAlive can always use help, volunteers, donations, kind words. Support them!

Pieces of this have appeared in other threads, some has not.

After an early morning wake up...

... and a check of the garden...

Image
Drove past Mat-O barrista extraordinaire at Root and Coffee Proper.

Image
Noticed the Irish Bar has changed its name again...

Image
Went to The Shore for breakfast with Matt and noticed the building across the street in
desperate need of tuck-pointing, and an owner! John McDonnell BUY THE BUILDING ALREADY!

Image
Ham and Cheese Omelet, Matt had his usual Corned Beef Omelet.

Image
Saw Dan walking his rescue greyhounds through DowntowN.

Image
Found this home on Grace I had not noticed before. A friend was thinking of moving out of
the promised land back to Lakewood, and was looking at it.

Image
Amazing detail. just behind Dru's Family Dollar project.

Image
Just like the zoo, without the key, or the animals, or the refreshment stands, or the crowds
but basically just like the Zoo!

Image
Talk about real estate, there goes Paula Reed, relator, and one of the true Lakewood Warriors,
LakewoodAlive, DowntowN, LiveWell Lakewood, X 1000, out strolling in front of Eddie Cerino's
Casual Italian Dining.

Image
Ran into Anthony Scaravelli one of Lakewood's many good photographers, at the MAD Art Walk,
here selling his doorways of Lakewood, and other places, prints.

Image
Saw Justine at the MAD's Art Walk, just passing through I would hate to interrupt anything
as serious as a crystal reading, talk about bad karma!

Image
Glenn putting tables away to take them out tomorrow.

Image
Ken and Kathy Haber enjoying a glass of wine, and a, a, a, a, a I know what people would
say it was if that device was in front of me! I guess one of the many great wines available
at Rozi's still the most comfortable porch in DowntowN Lakewood. Kathy and Ken just
got done from putting all of the planters on Detroit Avenue into new stands that lift them
off the ground about 3 feet. Showing yet again, why they are the volunteers of the
decade, have keys to the city, and well are just such great Lakewoodites!
To be honest I am kind of worried they allow Paula Reed and the Habers to be on Detroit
at the same time!

Typical Lakewood ride going south on Bunts. You might want to put that top up.

Here comes the rain again...

Image
The Water Mouse!

Sunday, found me mostly relaxing and stopping by Lakewood Hardware for their Customer
Appreciation Day Party, oh and the Historical Society's Old Time Baseball Game, and...

Image
Tim Lane, Chris Vance hard to grow tired of listening to them. Rocking it out in the parking
lot of Lakewood Hardware, how can you not love it.

Image
Joe Blues bending the notes.

Image
The Police were called as Chris Vance's bass lines were shaking the walls around town. While
I was thinking Chris should get the ticket, Glen thought, "How about you take O'Bryan,
and leave the band? You know he needs to be locked away."

Image
Then came the rains...

AND...

The Water Mouse!

Thanks Jim, for stopping by the job site, taking pictures and posting. Means a great deal to us to share our story about the work we're doing in our neighborhoods. Volunteers and an uber-dedicated staff are the lifeline of everything we do. We need help from the entire community both in volunteer time and financial support. Send me a note if you'd like to get more involved: iandrews@lakewoodalive.com or call me at 216-521-0655.

Forgot to post: Kathy and Ken Haber are incredible. Kathy came to our office and built the stands, one-by-one. The Downtown Lakewood Business Alliance merchant group (a program of LakewoodAlive) bought the stands to further support our Blossom Program. Kathy coordinates a dozen volunteers who water the plants on a regular basis throughout the summer. And, the plants are bought from Paul at Lakewood Garden Center. Merchants and/or building owners pay for the box and the flowers, Kathy and LakewoodAlive coordinate the purchase and then Kathy's Awesome Army waters. Another incredible example of volunteers giving so much.
