Lakewood's Great Horned Owl has abandoned its nest. It was noticed to be missing a couple
days after the last snow storm, and has not returned.

This could be for many reasons, including hawks or raccoons got to the eggs. While it is hard
to stop hawks and even eagles from eating Great Horned Owl eggs or babies. One of the big
problems is always humans, that crowd the nest, and/or touch the tree they are in. Raccoons
associate human scent with food, so will find the tree and climb it looking for food.

No matter, Great Horned Owl watch 2014 is over.

Bald Eagles, Green and Great Blue Heron nests doing good!

Stay tuned!
