Bob Evans Update!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Image
It looks like the "best" Bob Evans in North America is almost finished and opened for business.

One of the great features of this custom design for Lakewood is the "Street Car" entrance.
With the current trend here and nationally being in setback restaurants and patio dining,
Lakewood has got them to buy into our cutting edge "street car" design that does away with
anything remotely trending or new. We might tear down historical buildings, but we will
not change old outdated ideas!

Of course this will make entering much easier from Councilman Shawn Juris' "Screw the Seniors,
I cater To Drunks" Party Bus being planned to get drunks and wing crawlers around
this WALKABLE city during party hours of noon - 6am!

Councilman Shawn Juris' "Screw the Seniors, I cater To Drunks"

Jim, really, don't you think this is a bit of an exaggeration? The RTA shuttle idea is being paid completely by the bars and is a great idea to help lower drunk driving and help open up more parking for those from out of town. I am sure RTA would be more than glad to bring a senior circulator to Lakewood if someone was going to pay for it. If you think you can get enough stores to front the money why don't you try organizing it?

Also, this was not put together by "Councilman" Juris. This was a project developed between friends talking about something that "might be nice" and taking action. This will streatch through at least 3 wards, not just Ward III.

the article said the hours would be on Saturdays from 8:00 pm to 1:00 am. can't let pesky facts get in the way of a good narrative I suppose.

I've spoken to several people about this after having read about it and every one of them agreed that this is a fantastic idea and should be great for Lakewood businesses.

i'm gonna go out on a limb here and wager that if mr. juris' name was not associated with this proposal then you would be the plan's biggest cheerleader.

Jim, Chris, and Kate,

Let's talk about the RTA issue in "Councilman Shawn Juris and RTA shuttle bus service" thread at http://lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=12541.

As to Bob Evans, I understand that City Hall wants all new commercial development to be directly against sidewalks.

Jim is correct as to the "Trolley/Street Car Theme" being pushed at City Hall.

I would rather see green space ... and ... benches.

But, folks at City Hall disagree.

Chris

I am still mystified over Juris, but have to admit he has pushed many half witted ideas through,
and some good ones. He is not in my Ward, we have a representative of the residents in Ward 1,
David Anderson, not a shill for business, so what he does in Ward 3 should be addressed by them.

My thought, on the "Party Bus" is neither of the politicians quoted worked that hard for the
residents or seniors when it came to the buses, and circulators for seniors. Shawn just merely
the guy desperately trying to find buses for his yearly wing walk is on record saying, their was no
reason to continue the those buses. Also on the record some people wanted to place benches
between bunts and the library and Councilman Juris is on record saying "it is a stupid idea."
I do not make this up, and I care little about the Ward 3 Councilman until he enters my life with
another way to take away from residents and shill for bars and big business.

Let's be honest Chris. Your good friend Shawn Juris is the person that was eagerly closing St.
James for a cool brew pub. While it was still open, and residents fighting for it. Councilman Juris
who closes parks early for half brained reasons is NOT A FRIEND TO RESIDENTS.

If you think the cost of running the "Party Bus/Whiskey Train" is the cost of the bus, you are
seriously out of touch.

But let me look at it as a simple resident. Detroit Avenue is nightmare with traffic since the city
completely screed it up, now saying after many attempts to fix it, "That is what we wanted" We
have massive double RTA buses making traffic on Detroit Avenue worse. Now we are going to add
another bus to cater to people that are legally drunk?

IF THE BUSINESS ARE PAYING 100% AND NO PUBLIC FUNDS ARE BEING USED
WHY DO WE NEED MAYOR SUMMERS AGREEING TO ANYTHING?

The fact that Councilman Shawn Juris is helping to spearhead this doesn't make it a bad idea, or
even a worse idea, just another typical idea from the guy that hates and doesn't trust residents.

You were young at the time, go back to the old deck as some of us talked about the real coast of a
bar based economy. The cost of the bus is the cheapest part.

How about we pay for the bus, and the bars pay for the costs of arrests and property damage.

Matt

"Street Car Feel" is one of many goals for Detroit, so is patio dining. If you can explain how
these do not work against each other, please explain. The biggest problems out of
City Hall, no vision, no plan, no transparency. Their big plan is to spend $1.5 million
so that more LAKEwood residents, get a closer look of the lake on essentially bleachers.

Chris

PS - I think Councilman Juris was right about windmills in Lake Erie. Foolish right now.
Of course he thought they looked bad, and I think in technology that makes quantum leaps
every 6 months, and is still not carbon footprint efficient it pays to wait.

Again with my work load, I prefer to ignore him, but then he pops up shilling for drunks.

Jim,

The two concepts clearly work against each other.

And, I agree that City Hall appears to have no vision, no plan, and no transparency.

The entire City Hall planning and development model - to the extent one exists - appears to be built upon pyramid schemes and shell games.

And, while I wish the "Shawn Juris Party Bus" discussion would move to another thread, City Hall does love shutting down our main streets for city-wide booze bashes.

So, shuttling drunks around the 'Wood does appear to be consistent with a possible City Hall planning and development model.
