Jim,
What are the chances? I photographed the same lightning bolt from my driveway. I had my iPhone on a tripod on top of my car. Here's my photo.
Super freaky!
I think the light at the bottom of mine is a neighbor's gas lamp, not Gold Coast apartments. You had to be at least a half mile east of me when you shot yours.
Were you using iLightningCam on your iPhone?
This next photo shows the small view window I had through the trees to get the same shot as you.
Again, what are the chances?

Jim,
Sorry to crop your photo, but this really tells the story. Your photo on top. Mine is on the bottom.

Awesome!
The pics are outstanding but the fact that you both captured that same distinctive bolt is really amazing. It's also cool to see how they turned out a bit different.

Great photos. Who'd of thought that Jim and Steve could be on exactly the same page at the same time?

Two Observers in absolute alignment?
If EVER there was a time for that banjo sing-a-long, it would be now!
(to the tune of Battle Hymn....or if you prefer, originally that great 19th century Methodist hymn, "Say, Brothers, Will You Meet Us?")
The Ballad of Jim and Steve
Jim and Steve were watching all the lightning on the lake.
A tornado? A Direcho? With our very lives at stake!
And still those Lakewood heroes stood with camera pix to take!
While thunder rumbled on....
(All together now, let's SING!)
Snapping photographs together!
Snapping photographs together!
Thinking not of danger, nor of weath...er!
In harmony we sing!
Ah if we only had MORE harmony on this ol' Deck once in awhile...
Just think about it....
If the Lion will one day lie with the Lamb....
Perhaps Lakewood's Chickens and Pit Bulls can one day lie down together....
Hmmm...
Maybe I'd better get back to that banjo...

Somebody with a bit more mathmatical wizardry than myself could take the two photos, triangulate them and come up with a 3D rendering of the bolt like this guy did. Maybe he'd be up to duplicating the task?
