UPDATED! Power Out? Get Used To It! Frankenstorm To Blame

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

While driving around taking photos last night and today I could not help but notice a complete
lack of power trucks on the road from either CEI or First Energy. I started to get calls from
other storm watcher and chasers, and they noticed the same thing too.

This evening around 6pm I found a CEI truck parked and went up and spoke with him. I
asked about service and he said they are doing as good as they can under the circumstances.
I asked if he meant Frankenstorm, and he said "yes." I then asked if Ohio sent power trucks
to the East Coast and he said, "Well not all of them." I asked how many and he said more
than half, but do not worry we are expecting power trucks from Missouri, if the storm does
not keep them back.

He figured 3 - 5 days worst case scenario as of right now, but if it gets worse...

Franken-Storm Day 3

Image
Main power lines and poles still lying in the middle of Sloane Ave. untouched for 3 days,
taking four police to keep people from being stupid. Other lines still down throughout
the city.

Image
Most large trees still where they fell, or worse moved by winds throughout the night causing more trouble.

One of two electrical repair crews I have seen in the past two days.

Now here is the news!
Two more storms one large to hit the East Coast, the big one being called an "Election Day
Nightmare" by the Weather Channel. The first is soft, but the second storm is tracking
right into New Jersey then straight across the country and will cause heavy rains, flooding,
high winds in Ohio on Election Day.

I was talking with the crews on the street who seemed and confessed to being very tired.
Make sure you have contacted CEI.First Energy, (1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) ).

119,000 customers without power in Cuyahoga County!

While talking with some of the local people connected with law enforcement they thought
it might be nice to remind everyone... ALL FOUR-WAY INTERSECTIONS WHERE LIGHTS AREN'T WORKING ARE 4-WAY STOPS, please treat them as such. (Actually I noticed the traffic flow on Detroit has improved with this rule in effect!)

All other intersections, require care and COMMON SENSE, and GOOD MANNERS when
crossing them, so please pay attention.

As of this morning right now, Highland Ave. (West 117th) and Franklin Blvd. is the most dangerous intersection in Lakewood.

FINALLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY
Check on friends and the elderly! It is so easy to lose track of those who need daily help
and oversight during these moments. The elderly woman, man or couple a couple doors
away that are on their own. Stop by, knock on the door, say hello, make sure things are
OK there, ask if they need any help from City Services, or health care providers.

A GOOD COMMUNITY LOOKS OUT FOR ALL MEMBERS OF A COMMUNITY!
Many people, including myself, think we are the best community in the area.

Let's prove it!

Party On!
