Here we are at the spiritual end of Summer in Lakewood, the Community Festival at
Madison Park this weekend. A great way to touch base with old time fun in Lakewood,
with events for the kids, music for the parents, and great food for everyone.
While you are there, remember this is one of two parks that serve the center of the city
that the Public Works Director said "I just do not have the time to keep clean." And that
the head of the Public Works Committee, Councilman Shawn Juris, eagerly agreed and
worked to close both parks, as early as 4pm on some days, instead of going into the park
and seeing who was using them. Instead of looking at why the Public Works had no time.
Too many trips outside of the city on city time? Or cared for even a second about
what negative fallout it had on the residents of this great community. Of course that same
councilman thinks, "..there is nothing special about Lakewood."
So enjoy them while you can, until dusk.
"The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should
be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a
government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not
hesitate a moment to prefer the latter." - Thomas Jefferson
