St James Reopens To A Packed Church!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Image
At 7:10 pm, a group of priest from the area including both Father John from St. James and
Father Duke from St. Cyril Methodious walk down the aisle signifying the reopening of St James
Catholic Church, and hopefully putting behind church goers years of uncertainty and bitterness.

It was amazing talking with parishioners and seeing who showed up.

More images and story later.

It was great! The bells were ringing earlier, and a traffic jam out front as everyone poured
in to the 7pm start.

The last couple people roll in.

Inside it was stifling hot, but packed with happy people.

Dan May came in and ran into Mary Simon. Dan and Mary attended St. James school together.

One of Lakewood's favorite priest, Father Duke from St. Cyril Methodius.

Lots of love.

Councilman Tom Bullock gets in the last couple messages before the priests come in.

Suddenly light poured in and everyone stood turned to the doors and you could hear the excitement
as the priest got ready to come in.

Priests from all over the area were there in a show of support to the Congregation.

The candles are lit.

Father John, stands by ready to walk back into the church.

And in a moment they were off and walking down the aisle.

Image
Instantly smiles came over people's faces and everything felt right again.

Another one re-opened. Congratulations to the congregation, and the Vatican that realized
people need to have faith in their neighborhood churches.

Fr. Duke of course rocks, but you will find him at OLA these days serving as its pastor.

It was a nice feeling to walk back in there last night and see some old familiar faces.

The church looked much better inside than I had expected.

There were a few unsung heroes that made last night a reality.
