"We are the People We've Been Waiting For" tonight, at 7 PM

Post by Betsy Voinovich »

This film series about education has been great so far. It's interesting to compare the schools and students to the Lakewood Public School system. We always leave with a lot to think about and talk about. Thank you Christina, the Lakewood Council of PTA's and the Friends of the Library.

Here's a description of tonight's film:

Head back to the classroom with "School in the Cinema," a series of documentary films screened at Lakewood Public Library. Tonight, at 7 p.m., the second film in the series will show in the Main Library Auditorium.

A British documentary called, "We are the People We've Been Waiting For," looks at the British education system and asks if kids are being taught to make the most of their skills and abilities, or to conform to the expectations and goals of the set system.

Do kids develop to their potential in this education environment? Could they learn more from another style of education? Does the system prepare kids for an ever increasing global economy, or is it too rooted in past social and economic patterns? The film features entrepreneur Richard Branson, author Bill Bryson, former WV governor Bob Wise, and others about the global impact of education systems.

School in the Cinema is sponsored by Friends of Lakewood Public Library and Lakewood Council of PTAs. The last film, "Including Samuel," will screen Tuesday, January 17, 2012.
