Shame it has to be somewhere where people have to give personal information and sign up.

Actually one would think where to have this debate would be one of the first tests in
reaching out to the community. A place where anyone can read with no personal information
given, a place that can reach out to 5% of Lakewood or 80%?

But hey that's me thinking out loud.

I’m not sure you can really criticize either Bill Call or Kristine Pagsuyoin on this issue. Neither candidate has been a stranger to the Deck.

I never even mentioned here on the Deck. I merely mentioned public debates,
should be public.

I use facebook. Lakewood Observer uses facebook.

Bill has a facebook page, not a website. I would also think that a website, even a page is
100 times more accessible than the facebook page. Please note, I did not say skip the
facebook page. It is a great way to get people who know you send you their tips for
living and where to eat. But to reach out, deeper into the community, which I think you
would agree both of these candidates should seriously be doing.

A wise candidate can only battle the "stealth campaign" by being visible.

Not much personal information, except your real name, email and where you live. Kinda like... oh yeah, the Observer.

I don't have a Facebook which means I can't participate on that page.

I refuse to give that level of personal information just to be on the website. It's frustrating how much is being moved to Facebook instead of regular websites.

Not at all. You never have to sign in or sign up for the Observer. Anyone can read the
conversations. It is only when you wish to participate in a discussion do we ask for a way
for us to prove you are who you say you are. Once you have signed in and been verified,
you can delete all personal information but your name.

This and the fact we do not track what you have done to who, who you email from here
we have taken out any and all ways to track a member once inside he sight.

We never change personal nor security measures. We never share our information with
other groups or programmers. When you sign up for the Observer to join a discussion
we then do everything within our ability to protect your information from hackers and
from us. Facebook leaves all personal information open to their developers and when they
perform many of their updates and changes. Hav you not ever noticed than whenever
there is a FB update it always changes your security to "everyone." and you have to
change it back? But then most websites are developed to collect information on users and
off of the cookies you bring to their site. We were developed for discussion, not making
money on our users.

This election is going to be an interesting study in election psychology. How much do endorsements matter? party affiliation? glossy mailings? ideas? plans? and or a willingness to engage in open debate?

I think I know how its going to play out but you never know.

I chose to run for School Board because I believe in public education and I believe that quality public education in Lakewood is at risk. In a few days I will explain what I mean by that.

The advantage of an open debate is that the voters have a chance to judge candidates on the quality of their ideas, to challenge those ideas and in challenging those ideas cause the candidate to think harder about the task ahead.

Of course some would agree with Lincoln who said "It is better to remain silent and have people think you a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt".

I can't speak for other candidates but I'm willing to take the risk.
