In his withdrawal letter to the Board of Elections Matthew Markling stated:

Dear Mr. Lawler:

It has been an honor and privilege to represent the Citizens of Lakewood as President of the Lakewood City School District Board of Education. And I appreciate all the support and guidance the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections has given me throughout the campaign process.

In order to focus on the needs of my family, I will not seek re-election to the Lakewood City School District Board of Education and hereby withdraw my name as a candidate. Please remove my name from the November 2011 general election ballot.

Respectfully,

Matthew John Markling

This sucks. I will be blunt and say it sucks. Matt, thank you for your hard work and dedication to the students and parents in the school system. Thank you for keeping the public informed of everything that is going on.
And on a personal note, thank you for reading my email and giving me a call a while back, guiding me on who I needed to talk to so I can help my son. Because of your help, Patrick won an award last year for being on Distinguished Honor Roll for the entire year. Because of your guidance, my son is thriving and is loving school. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
