I-90 Fatality Backs Up Traffic For Hours

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Around 11:44 am A dump truck traveling West on I-90 had a blow out of his front tire which
caused the truck to cross three lanes of traffic and hit the concrete medium almost head on.
The engine and front of the truck landed in the on coming lane. It also caused massive
pieces of the median to fly across three lanes of traffic in the east bound lane. The truck 40
year-old truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Miraculously no one else was injured
or involved. The freeway was closed going West for 4 hours, and heading East it was down
to one lane.

That is a massive chunk of concrete there.

The force of the accident had to be incredible to send that concrete piece three lanes!

Thoughts and prayers to the family of the driver.

Jim-- great pics. I heard the first BANG, probably the blowout or the collision with the median. A working guy died.
What your pictures show is the response of numerous Responders--- Lakewood Police and Fire, of course, but a Sheriff's car, Rocky River Police were involved, and Cleveland Police.
I was listening on the scanner. As was to be expected, the Lakewood Dispatchers handled the intense voice traffic with their usual skill and professionalism.
