New Burger Place on Detroit Ave!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

It has been reported on Cleveland.com that Jimmy Burgers will open where Nikos was.

This has got to be great news for all the businesses on the "Detroit Chow Line."

Finally burgers!

I have zero connection with anything mentioned in this post.

Just as a point of clarification: it is NOT a burger place. It is called Jammy Buggers.

Not that that is a better name, but it is not a burger place.

I was all wth??!! about the name until I read the article. The concept sounds like my kind of place. Brits are not known for good food, though, but I will withold judgment.

I do hope they have crow on the menu for Jim's enjoyment. I hear he's not a big burger fan. :P

Val

You know what they call a good restaurant in England?

Indian.

Seriously, much better news.

As for the crow, Val you will always be my favorite server of that.

A little hotsauce please. Helps the feathers go down.

Well in the context of the Detroit Theater/McDonald's discussion, this place sounds a lot more like the type of place that would suit the evolving definition of the "Lakewood brand."

It's not a chain.

According to the article, the guy who bought the property has lived in Lakewood for ten years, and "After searching for the right property for more than a year, he is happy with the spot in Lakewood." He says, “I wanted to be more a part of the community.”

He goes on to say that he wants to create a favorite meeting place, which will be comfortable, "like your mother's house but with better beer."

His background sounds interesting too. The article says that he grew up in a restaurant family and was inspired to open his own restaurant, "after a drugstore chain (CVS?) purchased and demolished his family’s Toledo-area business and home three years ago."

'Jammy Bugger' is a British expression that means "lucky." The burgers I had when I lived in England weren't so great-- but I suppose that they would be part of a 'comfortable food' menu. Deagans is supposed to be British food right? People seem happy with that. (Haven't eaten there yet.)

It should be interesting. Time to head up there and tell Mr. Sprenger to check out the Deck-- people are talking about him.

Welcome. We'll be up there the day you open the doors.

Indian food is my favorite.

Someone's gotta eat the crow.... I'm a vegetarian. You can have my share too. Here's the Sriracha sauce, Jim.

Sounds interesting, will have to try it out. Would be nice if more smaller places like this would come towards the east side of Lakewood like Barocco... everyone seems to be cramming into "downtown" or the west end. It would also help relieve the parking issues.

It is different and filling a storefront and might b very good. The best part of American
British pubs is the use of spices. Unheard of over there.

Have you noticed that Madison is getting pretty full. A good sign.

I would like to see more action on the eastside of Lakewood around the Phantasy.

Val

You can have my beets then.

Sriracha would be marvelous. Far tastier then the raspberries you are usually serving me.

Dare I say that neither Betsy nor I can give blood thanks to tasting the beef in the UK
during the 80s! Hmmmmmmmm.

Let's hope ten years from now we are talking about "Jammy Buggers" 10th anniversary party.

Hey Folks!

I'm Jim Sprenger, owner of Jammy Buggars. A friend of mine let me know of the thread and I thought I'd drop in and introduce myself. I'm sincerely humbled by the positive curiosity. ...but that's why I love this town.

I am sorry to disappoint those that thought of us a new burger joint. But we do have an amazing grass-fed burger on the menu! Not just an ordinary chuck, this is an ohio raised beef grind containing the brisket, shank and flank-steak resulting in the best burger I've ever had. Of course, I'm biased.

Let me reassure you that we are also not a british pub. You may find fish-n-chips on the menu, but they won't be confused with any standard pub fare. Our chef driven menu is sophisticated enough for a nice meal but casual enough for every day dining.

...and then we have beer. A beautiful new 20 faucet tower has just been added to the back bar. Mostly craft, but I saved room for a nice rootbeer and cider.

We open on May 31st. Stop in for a bite....stay for a pint! ...and please ask for me. I'd love to meet you!

Jim

Welcome to the Deck and to business on Detroit Avenue. Thank you for taking a shot at
business here in Lakewood, and for posting on the Deck.

I would be the ASS, that read your name wrong and said, "Oh no another burger place."
I spoke with Dru Siley two days ago, and he explained more about your business and
it sounds like something new and different for Lakewood.

Good luck, and I for one will stop by with the crew, and look forward to meeting you and
celebrating your first of many anniversaries.

Congratulations on owning/operating, what seems to be, a great asset to Lakewood. I am very excited that you are opening at the end on May. I am definitely going to stop in for a meal. I believe and supporting local businesses. I much rather give my patronage to a business in Lakewood then any other surrounding community....I believe this is important. Hope to see you soon.
