Hogsback Lane Closed

Post by Bret Callentine »

Heard a report on the radio that Hogsback lane down into the metroparks has been closed due to erosion problems. They did not suggest a time limit on the closure.

is there anyone out there with any more information on the matter? Is this a scheduled closure? how long? etc.

Bret---- This might be the impetus to rebuild that entrance. The Metroparks was trying to develop a plan about 3 years ago that would include more than just rebuilding the entrance. But nothing materialized out of that planning.
That's the last entrance besides Rockliff and Detroit that has to be rebuilt. I can't imagine that they'd do temporary buttressing when a total rebuild is inevitable.

Boo, that's the way I ride down into the Metroparks. Hope it's not closed long.

Brett,Bryan-- I just got off the phone with Jane Christentian of the MetroParks to ask about the status of Hogsback.

First, let me express some astonishment (although I shouldn't be astonished) at the prompt and open and candid response to my phone inquiry!

As of now, they (Metroparks) will be making interim repairs to the entrance. Any long term rebuilding of the entrance is not on the agenda now.

I will continue to monitor and update the repairs as I was encouraged to do by Jane. I told her I would post on the Deck.

So, my initial reaction is---------

Winter causes damage, the public agency responsible takes initial precautions; the public agency responds with promptness and openness to a public inquiry, and that agency (to us Lakewoodites, the Valley) is making it right.

Hogsback Lane back in 2005 when LO columnist sounded the warning.

It was back in 2005 when Gordon Brumm and I first looked into this dangerous situation. What we found was that no one was willing to do a thing. The City of Lakewood owns part, the City of Cleveland owns part, even the county and state own part. No one can agree on
what part.
