Thealexa,
Your posts took me back to senior year of high school, in our human rights and conflict class.

Bill, all I want for Christmas is that you would put your accounting degree in a box in the attic or basement. Pretend like it doesn't exist and that you never learned anything about the numbers game.

If you had your own financial show, you'd have half of the world taking a part in mass suicide. You'd have as much power as Glen Beck and Rush Dumbaugh combined.

Sorry, I spelled Rush's last name wrong. It's Dumbarf, isn't it?

Dang edit button.

I was thinking about our new schools, and one thing I know we were promised but nevered delivered on was the new schools would be green. All we really got was a typical greenwashing.

The new Obama Administration is hopefully more committed than that to developing green technology. How about we request a grant to develop renewable energy to power our new schools and City facilities? We could maybe try this technology: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/renewableenergy/3535012/Ocean-currents-can-power-the-world-say-scientists.html I'll bet Lake Erie would be an excellent site to try this (perhaps off the w117th peninsula).

Lakewood Government should be burning the midnight oil coming up with ways to utilize a portion of this money for Lakewood's good. Come on guys! This is a once in a lifetime chance. Think big!

Propose 4 peninsulas to double the size of Lakewood.

Ask for overpasses over the train tracks or better yet, let's bury the railroal underground.

Let's bury I90 underground like the highways in Boston.

Ask for money to rebuild our port.

Ask for money to make Lakewood use renewable energy.

Ask for 500 hundred things, maybe we will get 5.

Now you are talking turkey!

One reason Cleveland lost National City Bank was that our politicians failed to understand the way the new economy works. It's not good business sense or hard work or saving or investing or risk taking or innovation or decision making that matters. It is political connections. It is the willingness to use raw political power to grab as much money as possible for you district or state.

In that environment it is foolish to raise local taxes to fund schools or streets or anything else. All efforts should be focused on getting a piece of the action.

Obama will print the dollar bills, Beranke will throw dollar bills from helicopters and the congress will hand dollars bills out like Christmas candy. To be effective in this new political environment our politicians need to learn how to mug Santa Claus.

Hi,
Mr. Call, I have a Ron Paul bumper sticker on my car, so I am against sending our tax dollars to Washington to see then divided up to the best lobbyists.
That said I do believe the federal government must provide a baseline of services and I feel health care is one of those baseline services. I wish Obama's massive "New Deal" would be universal Health Care. At least everyone would benefit from it equally.

But let's face facts:
1). NE Ohio was screwed out of federal dollars for the last 8 years. It can make a huge difference to a local economy and we have been hurting.
2). Regardless of what you or I would like, the money is going to be spent. The question is, Does Lakewood get any of it?

Hi,
PS, Bush and Congress have been driving our Country into bankruptcy for 8 years, sending most of that money outside our country to benefit or destroy other Nations. Where was your outrage then?

It seems once a Republican leaves the White House all Republicans quickly return to the notion of being fiscally conservative.

I guess better late than never.

Hi,
I do not agree with the Deck on moving this thread here. It was and is discussing Lakewood.

That is a true fact!

Republicans are only in favor of fiscal responsibility when they do not have the power to actually practice fiscal responsibility. Republicans views of fiscal responsiblity are little like St. Augustine's view of chastity; he prayed for the strength to lead a chaste life but added the words "but not yet":

Don

Perhaps you and Lynn could join us next Tuesday at bella dubby and we can discuss why I moved this to global.

I understand your point, but it was moved, and we can still work Lakewood into this national conversation.

I have no problem with the movement of any of my posts. Hellooo Hellooo is anyone out there? Hellloooo Hellloooooo Hellllooooo....

This article by David Brooks contains one tidbit that illustrates the danger of the Obama stimulus package and the need for our local politicians to get to the table before the cash is all gone:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/09/opini ... ef=opinion

It seems that the trillion dollars in government money that created the exurbs and hollowed out the cities has created a stale exurbian environment . The solution, according to Brooks anyway, is for the federal government to spend a trillion dollars to create a "sense of community" in all those new exurbs. Where does that leave cities like Lakewood? On the outside looking in left holding the bag while the last ship sets sail and the train leaves the station without us.

Our elected representatives better get their hand in the cookie jar before someone takes the punch bowl away.
