Build Lakewood Flier Part 2


Continuing on the BL flier, the BL folks say that "the proposed City Charter Amendment will force Lakewood taxpayers to finance a stand-alone hospital in competition with more efficient regional healthcare providers." OUTRIGHT LIE: The Charter Amendment simply says that if the Council acts to close the hospital then there is an automatic referendum and the people get to vote whether or not to close the hospital. That of course, would not be necessary if the Clinic would provide a release and allow other healthcare systems to come in an run the hospital. But that would shatter its plan to monopolize healthcare in the region.

This group is so desperate to fog things up they will try anything. We used to call it obfuscation in the old days. Roget's Desk Thesaurus defines obfuscate as a verb that means many things: confuse, obscure, blur, muddle, scramble, mess up, befog, complicate, distort, becloud, confound, fluster and stupefy.

Yep, that pretty much sums up the BL flier.

SLH has got to come up with a mailer that will dispute the so-called "facts" of the BL flyer. Sadly, many folks who received that flyer are uninformed about the real facts of the situation. They will take the flyer as the truth and vote accordingly. We've got to educate as many people as possible to the untruths that are being spread. Let's face it, while this forum is vibrant and informative, the majority of Lakewood residents don't follow it. So, we've got to find other ways to get our message across. Personally, I am speaking to each of my neighbors about the issue when I run into them. I have a neighbor who sent his kids to Lakewood Catholic Academy. Apparently, the majority of the parents there are pro-Litten and pro BL because of the so called "catholic lobby". When I tried to point out the facts, he was very stubborn and insists that Litten and BL have Lakewood's best interests at heart. He actually said to me, "Litten is a good Catholic man and would never advocate for anything that could possibly hurt anyone" . . I was just dumbfounded. Now it is becoming a religious issue - WHAT'S UP WITH THAT???
