MetroHealth Opening New Emergency Rooms

Post by Bridget Conant »

Interesting article about a hospital that is supposedly not good enough, and not rich enough, for Lakewood.

The deal will increase MetroHealth's concentration in Cuyahoga County at a time of breakneck expansion by the region's largest hospital systems. University Hospitals and Cleveland Clinic have both expanded rapidly in recent years, acquiring community hospitals and opening new outpatient facilities across Northeast Ohio.

MetroHealth's chief executive, Dr. Akram Boutros, said the move is not targeted at any particular competitor -- University Hospitals has facilities in close proximity to both locations -- but is instead part of a broader effort to make the hospital system's care more convenient for patients.

HealthSpan Physicians president, Dr. Nabil Chehade, said in a statement, "We are excited to partner with MetroHealth so that patients who visit these facilities in Parma and Cleveland Heights will soon have access to the entire care continuum under one roof – a full-service Emergency Department operated by MetroHealth, and specialty, ancillary and primary care services provided by HealthSpan physicians."

HealthSpan is part of Mercy Health and is comprised of more than 300 primary care and specialty physicians, therapists, nurse practitioners and others. It has 11 locations in Northeast Ohio.

So now tell me - MetroHealth wouldn't work in Lakewood?
