training between the FBI, Lakewood Fire Department, Metro Hospitals Training
Center, and it was very real!
FBI and Lakewood Fire Department SWAT enter a building which could have been a school,
church, anywhere in this day and age. They do know know anything about the situation
they are going into. Shooters could be alive or gone. They have no idea of injuries or
emergencies. They are the first responders, and their lives are on the line.
How real? Click video for some background music, look at the pictures, then click the
sister video at the end.

Then come in and find one person shot, with two more down the hallway.

Check hallways and doorways, understand, diagnose, stabilize victim.

Safety always first.

I say understand, because a lot of what they do is talk to and reassure the victims.

The team and I do mean team, is already working on the next victim by talking to them,
assuring them they are next, talking to them about what they know. "How many shooters?"

Meanwhile LFD SWAT members are stopping the bleeding reassessing every thing every
moment, as they sweep through a deadly scene.

Next up shot in the leg and chest, friend dead bleeding out. Again lead FBI asking assessing
and taking to next victims, "How many," "Are you OK?" "Where did they go?" How many
in the next room?"

People screaming, yelling in pain, asking for help, and about the person next to them dead.

Click video.
It was all too real and it all echoed up and down the empty dark halls. Sitting in the last
room with four people screaming for help with one dead, it seemed to take forever for
the FBI and LFD to make their way down. In fact, they moved very quickly, stopping the
bleeding and stabling 6 heavily wounded patients, clearing two hallways, 3 rooms, in under
5 minutes.

FBI stands guard at the door the shooter left through, as the last two are attended to.

Then Metro Hospitals doctors and members of Lifeflight would go back and debrief all at
each victim and dead person, explaining what they did right, and what could be improved.
As so often with Lakewood Fire Department.

Lakewood Fire Department SWAT Medic Scott Russell talks about the last group with
Metro Hospital Training Center Doctors.
