Planning Commission to Consider St. Charles Green Space

Post by Kristine Pagsuyoin »

Planning meeting Thursday, September 3rd and the Commission is scheduled to review the St. Charles Green space. Rumor has been that the city is considering turning it into surface parking (this green space is right behind a 1000 space newly renovated parking garage). Ward 2 Councilman Sam O'Leary has asked the green space be designated officially as a park. I support that. If you do too please consider attending the meeting tonight.

Docket No. 09-32-15
St. Charles Green Park as presented by Samuel O’Leary, Ward 2 Councilman

Samuel O’Leary, Ward 2 Councilman will present his ordinance regarding certain parcels of land located at 1347 St. Charles Avenue, known as St. Charles Green, to be designated as a public park. This item was referred to the Planning Commission for further review and recommendation.

Kristine

Do we know the number of spots occupied on a daily basis in the high rise garage?

It seems to be there are a large number available any time I availed myself of parking there. If the spots are not used, do we need surface parking in the same location?

I don't know if a survey has ever been done to know how many spots are used on a daily basis, but your're correct, it doesn't reach capacity and is hardly used on the weekends.

Should be a splash park and not a parking lot.

Talk about redundant! That green space has a nice feel to it, unlike any other green space in Lakewood that I'm aware of. It's a good place to watch the trains...a parking lot is absurd. Besides the fact it's not needed due to the HUGE parking garage adjacent to St. Charles Green!

Please tell me, where did these "urban planners" get their education?
