Lakeland Ave. Man Attacks Mother With Knife...

In the early morning hours on Lakeland Ave., a man attacked his mother with a knife, then
turned the blade on himself.

On July 16, 2015 at 3:18 am the Lakewood Police Department received a 911 hang-up call from 1431 Lakeland Ave. As is done with all 911 hang-up calls a call back is made to the phone number the call was received from. This was done and the Dispatcher spoke with the resident. A female answered the phone call. When told that a 911 hang-up call was received from the home the female replied that she had been sleeping and someone must have called by accident. The dispatcher told her we just wanted to make sure everything was ok. There was no indication during the call back from the female or in the background of any problems in the home.

At 3:36am a second 911 call is received from 1431 Lakeland. The female caller requested officers to respond to the home. When asked what the problem was the female stated here son had stabbed himself and he was bleeding to death. As the dispatcher inquires further there is a disturbance wherein the female and a male yell out and the call ends.
Lakewood Police and Fire Units respond. Upon entering the home officers found a female on the kitchen floor with a wound to the chest. Officers search the home for other victims or suspects and find a male standing on the second floor. The male had also sustained a wound to the torso. The male, 21 years old was arrested.

There were no other persons located inside the home.

The female was transported to Fairview General Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 5:07am.

The male was transported to Metrohealth Medical Center to be treated for his wound.
This case is being investigated as a homicide.

The name of the victim will be release upon notification of next of kin.

The victim is identified as Kathleen A. Meany 56 yrs.

The male arrested is the victim’s son. His name will be released upon charges being filed.
He is currently in stable condition at Metrohealth Medical Center.
