Pedestrian Cross walks needed on busy Madison Ave.

Post by jackie f taylor »

There is a traffic light at Madison & Reverley, just west of Warren, the next light is all the way down at Morrison. There are countless popular restaurants, clubs and shopping along the avenue. I see elderly folks, mothers with children, cyclylist, walkers, runners all taking the risk attemping to cross the street. Public parking at the Richard Hillard House, patrons have to dodge traffic to cross the street. A study should be done to determine if indeed crosswalks are needed. I believe they are.

I tend to agree.

Does anyone know if this was considered during the Madison repaving and re-laning?

There was a light at Arthur for many years but it was eliminated about 20 years ago to comply with newer state standards to remove excessive traffic lights

I have no doubt there are crosswalks needed on Madison, it's just common sense. No study needed! City Hall loves to study, ad nauseum, while spending $1000s your money on consultants to tell us what we already know. A citizen task force would be better. It would contain local residents who are much more in tune with what is needed. I'm sure there is someone at City Hall working on this, right??

As an aside, "consultants" parked themselves one Wednesday afternoon down at Mars and Detroit. They came to the conclusion the light wasn't needed there. Well, that may be true, but crosswalks were need there big time! It has to be the most crossed section of Detroit in the whole city, yet there is none. Stupid! Now, everyone and their brother jay walks between Drug Mart and the Library constantly. Just goes to show consultants can be way off in their assessments and we pay for their bad advice in more ways than one.

BRING BACK A CROSSWALK AT MARS AND DETROIT!

There should be more than one, it is a great walk-able neighborhood. residents walking their dogs, kids coming from school, elderly shopping, I've seen our elderly neighbors from my balcony, they can't run.

It would not only provide a safer crossing for our citizens, but it would slow traffic speeds down a bit, maybe the commuters would have time to look at the many diverse business's & services Madison has to offer. If you want to get there quickly, take the freeway.

The crosswalks should have flashing lights, signs, and painted as required in a designated crossing zone. It would be good for the citizens, the businesses and the commuters.
And that is what I think.

Having said all of that, I would like to add one last thing, directly across from Barrio's on Madison, I'd like to invite the city, it's residents, patrons and commuters to stop and enjoy the sites of Mr. Bubbles, his bubble busting dog Rufus, and the notorious "Champagine Lady, every now & then at dusk.
