Fire, Porch Collapse, Near Fatal Accident, Suicide Start 4th

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

The 4th of July weekend was barely going when a porch collpased over just north of Detroit Ave. on Warren Road.

The brick four family porch let go, but luckily no one was injured.

At around the same time there was a fire on another porch on Wynadotte, and then a call
went out for a pedestrian hit on Detroit.

The mother of the boy hit texted us today he is expected to make a recovery, and that
is great news!

The debris field from the accident went from Maile to Riverside Drive.

Police making measurements, at this time the victim was still alive at Metro.

The street was littered with red circles for evidence.

Then sadly fire was called away for an apparent suicide.

Good work Lakewood Fire and Police,on the start of a long weekend.

It is great news this morning that we were wrong about the pedestrian, and the the young man
is expected to make a long but full recovery.

As for the suicide we would not normally cover it, but it really shows how fast resources in a city
get stretched to extremes. Last night at midnight City of Lakewood was calling for auxiliaries and
help all over the city.

Have a happy and safe 4th.

What about the car that hit the young man? Has the driver been identified and/or arrested? Did the driver flee the scene? It looks like a lot of car parts in street - will they be investigating and seeking the driver? Any witnesses to the crash?

Living nearby, I've seen many near misses at the Riverside/ Detroit intersection, including myself who almost got run over by a big white SUV with "crazymom" plates. No one waits for people in the crosswalk and they all drive way too fast, all the way down Detroit. If the city wanted to bring in more money, they could ticket all day long for speeding on Detroit.

Anyway, I hope the driver is identified and if at fault, charged.
