Congratulations Mayor on the Endorsement; What about Lakewood Hospital?
Lakewood - Friday, June 26, 2015 - State Senator Michael Skindell, candidate for Lakewood Mayor, issued the following statement on the Democratic Club endorsement of the Mayor:
"I congratulate the Mayor on receiving the endorsement of the Democratic Club."
The Mayor was endorsed after receiving the majority of votes of 47 eligible voting members of the Democratic Club in a community of nearly 52,000 people. The Democratic Club endorsement was made in the absence of Senator Michael Skindell, who, at the time, was obligated to be in Columbus to vote on legislation involving the state budget, charter school reform and attacks on municipal home rule powers.
"But Mayor, why are you continuing to negotiate a backroom deal to close Lakewood Hospital?" Senator Skindell asked.
In January 2015, the Mayor delivered to City Council a deal to close Lakewood Hospital engineered for more than a year in secret. The Mayor continues to construct the final details of that deal behind closed doors.
Senator Skindell has been a vocal opponent of the deal to close Lakewood Hospital. Skindell stated:
"I am running for Lakewood Mayor to bring transparency to city government. I will oppose backroom deals that are delivered to the public in a black box. During my entire career in public service I have always fought for open government. I will work to save Lakewood Hospital."
Senator Michael J. Skindell has a distinguished record of service to the citizens of Lakewood. He has served Lakewood a Councilperson-at-Large on Lakewood City Council and as a member of the state legislature.

47 eligible voters?
On twitter the club described it as a "full house".

The Democratic Club has blocked me on Twitter!
I committed the crime of pointing out that their endorsed candidate is not a Democrat.

Worse than a crime, it was a blunder!

Most people are uninformed and unaware. That's not a judgment just and observation. It's not even a bad thing. People have other worries and what happens in the political world is outside their control.
People who wish to save Lakewood Hospital are going to have to educate the public about the real threat to their health and prosperity. Our various media outlets in the Cleveland area will do their best to underreport the story and misreport the story (aka lie).
Senator Skindell's failure to get that endorsement was a blunder. The house should have been pact with his supporters. There is still time.

To be clear, very few of the Summers voters last night were "sheep".
Most of them were wolves that came to devour the highly coveted "Endorsed by The Lakewood Democratic Club" label for their candidate.

Jim,
Funny.
The irony of the 47 number just dawned on me.
By the way, do you know whether Team Summers will be tossing "magic beans" during the Fourth of July Parade this year?

Yes, "Kill Lakewood Hospital" (or Team Summers, if you prefer) is gathering people for the parade.
I expect a strong turnout among City Hall employees and their family members.
Heck, I bet they're handing out those snappy "Arrow Down" t-shirts, which are incredibly appropriate for that campaign.
It's amazing that their design team never noticed such a major flaw in their logo.
