The End Of Lakewood...
A small group of busybodies have been chanting this for longer than Bill Call was chanting
"The Hospital is moving." Nearly the very same crew, with the exception of some that died
or moved, were explaining to us, "If the WestEnd is not built, it will be the end of Lakewood!"
Instead it was the start of some of the best years Lakewood has seen.
"If we do not spend million and millions in DowntowN it will be the end of Lakewood and we
will lose the hospital." So the Ciy spent $50+ million on the Downtown Business district.
Still the hospital is leaving, and stores pulling out, as it turned out to be BS.
Now we hear if we do not lose nearly $200 million in assets overnight and channel money
to one of the mayor's close friends, "It will be the end of Lakewood."
Mike Summers, Mary Ann Crampton, Jay Foran, Brian Powers, Shannon Strachan, etc have
a very impressive failure rate. Let's be honest, Bill Call has a better average than all of
them combined. Pretty scary, that they are not only the ones that sat back letting the hospital get run into the ground but are also the first in line for any money or property from it.
But a tad of critical thought would bring some questions, like...
How could you ask us for so much money, millions through the city, federal money and private donations to "invest in Downtown Lakewood to stop a hospital from leaving"--that's what they told us-- when you are working to force it out?
How could you ask for so much attention to downtown, way-finding, fake logo and sign
contests, a complete charade to get your incomes paid, and lie to us?
The names above may mean well, I am sure, but they have ZERO CREDIBILITY.
It is they who have created yet another war in Lakewood. They want their taxes low, and
they want jobs managing things that ran themselves in the past.
SO AGAIN I ASK, If Chris Christie instead of moving 42 orange cones, sold the bridge to
a single bidder and channeled the money to his best friend's new non-profit, would it have been better or worse? Because that is what we have here. An active push to get rid of our
largest employer, so they can grab the $$$$$ and the land.
Where are the Feds when you really need them...
Watching this now, I hear. Stay tuned.

I have heard rumors they are going to build an indoor waterslide park at the Lakewood hospital.

Hey Ryan:
How will they be able to afford the water for the slide with our rates going up every year?

Re: The End Of Lakewood...
I got a couple calls on this post, so let me clarify.
I am not saying these people are doing anything illegal. I am saying that this clique of people
are dead in the middle of so many of these "secret" plans that create pure havoc when they
come to light suddenly and residents have a chance to look at them and think about them.
These people would tell you-- and it is a legal thought-- that commercial economic development is
important to this city, blah, blah, blah.
I would say we not only have different thoughts on community, but also on transparency
and accountability. Look back in our archives for "New Logo For Downtown" http://lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7620&hilit=sign+design
Now, in the current situation, we have one just leaving council, two heading up the Lakewood Hospital Foundation, one heading up the "Active Living Task Force" which has never uttered the words "Rec Center" or
"Soccer fields," or so I have been told, which would make them negligent in the study.
One is the Mayor, and the other works in the Mayor's office.
We can go into who is paying who to head up weekend conferences and such, but
I just wanted to make it clear, not saying illegal, just saying getting old.
peace out

Re: The End Of Lakewood...
Near the end of March, 2015, I began investigating the hospital “deal”. On April 13, 2015, I told Mayor Summers and a small group of citizens that I considered Mayor Summers and City Council to be members of my family and if I found out that someone was taking advantage of them, I would be “the first one up the hill” to defend them. As my investigation as a citizen of Lakewood continues, I have discovered many facts, special interests, relationships and political factions I never knew existed---remarkably, much of what I have unearthed concerning the hospital “deal” has little to do with the bogus “paradigm” in healthcare yarn that has been spun. I know that I have only scratched the surface of what Jim O’Bryan is referring to above—I never knew that colorful Jim O’Bryan existed prior to April 15th let alone the other cast of characters.
If there is going to be a “war” over what over this old and ongoing way that “business” and “deals” are done in Lakewood, I plan to be on the side of fact based truth, transparency and change. Count on me being the “the first one up the hill”
P.S. Jim, in my view, this is not the end of Lakewood, it is the dawn of a new Lakewood. I have not yet begun to fight.

Margueritte
Save Lakewood Hospitals seems to be doing well. But then, anyone with any common sense
can see what a terrible deal was put together in secret.
I believe it borders on money laundering, Selling off TWO COMMUNITY ASSETS, one on
Detroit, one on Colombia Road, and all the money going to lifelong friends' non-profits?
Nothing to the city and the residents that own it?
Another was to save the Hospital and more importantly the City of Lakewood is to run this
clique out on a rail, as they did in the old days.

You mean, Another WAY to save Lakewood - is to run the clique out of town?

No matter what I meant, as I read your line it seemed harsh. I never want to see anyone
run out of town, or run out of business, that has set up here.
