While LHA Defends its Customs, the Revolution Begins

Post by Brian Essi »

On May 13, 2015, I wrote the LHA trustees, suggesting many things, including “that a major mistake was made and poor judgment was used in signing the LOI and presenting it as a “done deal” instead of just sending a recommendation to City Council. The lack of independent legal counsel for LHA explains but does not excuse the mistake.” I also included this quote in my letter: “A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason.” “Common Sense”, Thomas Paine, 1776. It has been reported to me that many trustees are angry and insulted by my letter. May I suggest that the trustees would be more effective if they focused the facts and reasons that have caused healthy majority of citizens to be angry and insulted by what LHA has done and continues to do. Hurt feelings aside, the LHA trustees must eventually come to term with reality and their role in creating that reality.
They continue comment that the King’s clothing (the LOI) is beautiful, but the rest of with eyes wide open see his nakedness. For the first time in over a decade they now have legal counsel who may help pry their minds and eyes open.
Form now, the LHA trustees’ outcry in defense of their customs and outdated thinking that they and their King are right and others are wrong proves that Thomas Paine’s timeless words are correct: Time makes more converts than reason. The Save Lakewood Hospital folks have signed the Declaration of Independence. There revolution in Lakewood has begun. The first shot of the battle of Lexington and Concord (the taxpayer suit) will occur in the next weeks or so. It appears that for now, the LHA board has chosen to stay on the side with the tyrant.

I love your quote which sadly plays out as very true in our tumultuous times.
"The desire to win is meaningless without the discipline to prepare."
