Lakewood High School Comes Under The Wrecking Ball

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

The crew hired to tear down the old sections of Lakewood High started with the Arts Building,
something I am sure most Principles would have done gladly. Not only was the Arts wing the
home of so many talented individuals and teachers it was also one of the incubators of so
many silly and fun projects.

The Arts Building also represents the West wall of the infamous "Smoking Pit" the home of
many "sucker kisses and switch knives" as Principle Dr. Howe called for the "Machines to
Go!!" on the day of the Lakewood 7 walk out.

Just shows the problem of the subsequent, lesser classes that followed--- can't account for 1 -39.

Gee, there went my old band room too!

Ah, the old fire escape....Still hear the laughter, the banging of instruments on the railings, the anticipation of lining up at the edge of the field....The cadence, the roll off, the FIGHT SONG!!!

White buckskin shoes, gold Ranger band uniform, gold sparkle drums, the Friday night drum line dinner, marching as a drum line to the high school sometimes...8 steps to five yards...

Was it raining? Well, that's why they called us RAIN-GERS! (smile)

You say that you don't play the drums?
We don't care, that's cool.
We just want you all to know...
Ranger drummers RULE!!!!!

Back to the banjo...(a drum with a limb attached....)
