World of Beers Closes Their Doors IMMEDIATELY

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

What was hailed as one of the great achievements of Lakewood Planning "World of Beers"
has closed it doors. Once alive with the promise that the students from Akron University
would fill their bar, has come to naught.

The last pieces leave.

They were planning a huge New Year's Eve Party?

Sorry to hear this.

I haven't done any formal market analysis, but it seems to me that Lakewood has stretched the feasible limits of the "bar and restaurant" economy.

Turnover is to be expected in bar/restaurant economy.

Mr. Siley's vision for Lakewood... Drugs and Suds. A Drug-Mart here, a bar in a church there, just keep moving. Stock the Planning Commission with sympathizers, get City Council members who know they been misled (Ms. Madigan) not to say anything and soon enough Lakewood is remade into Sileywood. Now there's a cartoonish map waiting to happen.

I think I went there once. Franchise. Boring. No food. I am not surprised. I can get good beer at dozens of places in Lakewood. To succeed they need to be unique, WoB was not. Look at 16-Bit or Side Quest for bars that I think should* make it.

*My opinion is no guarantee of actual success.

According to our liberal records...

How could anyone say 42 places to get prepared food per square mile is enough?!

But that is 210 customers per restaurant, one should be able to think...

Sorry Mike!

16-Bit's opening killed World of Beer. If I want beer without fun, why not go to a fun place serving better beer at 30% less price? World of Beer just was not a very fun environment in which to hang and drink beer. It had an odd setup and wasn't very "cozy" as a local watering hole.

I'm more surprised that they lasted almost two years than I am that they closed.
