Kauffman Park Backstop

"The City took the old backstop down on the east side of the park today. It would have been nice to know about it in advance as it was still getting frequent use by kids and sometimes dads giving their kids batting practice. It was out of the way so it wasn't getting in the way of anything. It was a nice part of the park that we had asked the town to leave up in our planning meetings awhile back. But today they said it was in "bad shape" and a "hazard", but I saw no indication of that when I walked by it every day. What do you think?"

Communication? Teamwork? Whose call and why? Is there no system/procedure for the city to work with groups like this about things like this? What if the "Friends" could have corrected the supposed hazard or taken other steps to spruce it up? Of, by and for the people?

Some might say that city hall calling the backstop "in bad shape" and a "hazard" might be akin to the proverbial pot calling the kettle black. (Some)
"So, let's make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we're together we might as well say:
Would you be mine? Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?"

Now that the citizens know the mayor will make changes if you complain enough, I wonder if there is just another neighbor who became a "credible threat"
