Finally, this government works hard to create conditions that will attract private investment in our city. While some recent notoriety has accompanied a few entertainment investments that serve alcohol, by no means is this a complete story. Four information technology companies, two small law firms, several new retail operations; popcorn, bicycles, graphic arts, soap, drug stores, and numerous others have invested 60 million dollars in Lakewood. Equally important is the retention of several existing commercial office tenants.

All of us understand how important it is that we all feel safe in Lakewood. In this day and age, this is a serious challenge. We must not let our guard down for a second. It is my job to ensure that we don’t!

Michael P. Summers

Mayor, City of Lakewood

Amy, All

What has gone wrong with this world, and this City (Hall)?

As I saw posts come in, and people stopped me on the street as I delivered papers yesterday, I was amazed at some of the comments that I heard. One of the many was, “That woman had no business running at 4am.” Which is totally abstract to me. When we have to fear at what hour we do things in a community, there would seem to be more serious issues. Hint to Mayor Summers: we do not need to "feel safe." We need to be safe.

But nothing was more disturbing and borderline disgusting than the response from Mayor Michael P. Summers. Who sent one resident a page of reasons why it is not Lakewood’s fault for waiting until another Westside (potentially Lakewoodite) resident was raped in the same way three days later.

The paragraph I pulled above from the mayor's letter underlines exactly what I have been saying for years. What others in this project have said for years. CITY HALL DOESN’T CARE ABOUT RESIDENTS OR OUR SAFETY, they only care about BARS, RESTAURANTS, POPCORN, Bestest Taco Bells, and everything and anything but RESIDENTS. THEY SEE US AS JUST COMPLAINERS or PROBLEMS IN THE WAY.

Even with a woman desperately reaching out and begging for some sort of reason why the Mayor did not think it important to warn residents (women) of a violent predator on the loose, he makes a speech about how lucky we are to have popcorn stores? Seriously?

This makes NFL Commissioner Roger Goodall look like a pro-active extremely sensitive business man.

No, first he makes clear that it was not his or the City’s fault, then he ends the letter on the soapbox about Lakewood's Brand and how lucky we are.

Is it any surprise that Lakewoodites feel that the city cares more about our brand than our safety? When the Mayor's daughter was nearly beaten to death in Ohio City last year, did the mayor take any satisfaction knowing it happened in a really cool neighborhood that has basically the same thing Mayor Summers mentions, popcorn, tech companies, bars and restaurants?

It is troubling that, to the bitter end, he sees the need to protect "a few entertainment investments that serve alcohol," more than the women and residents of Lakewood.

As of 1:15pm the Lakewood Police were unwilling to comment on if this was our rapist.

Of course that is about the same time he was being taken into custody.

Stay tuned...

Police arrested James W. Daniel III on West 87th Street after obtaining an arrest warrant charging him with the
Sept. 2 rape of a jogger on West 104th Street.

The neighborhood.

The house...

While speaking with neighbors it was the strangest block I have ever been on in Cleveland. They have nothing
good to say about James Daniels III, but then they had nothing good to say about their other neighbors!

While talking with police and neighbors, one would pull me aside and say, "Don;t listen to that asshole..."
"That family is no good..." "Why did you ask them, everyone hates them..." and on and on.

Many of us know it as the street Ferris Steak House was on...

But the street was much like you would expect from what you have heard.

He has not been charged with either Cleveland or Lakewood at this time.

As of this morning, the person charged with the early morning rape around Edgewater and West 104.

Bond has been set at $750,000 for James Daniels III, but Lakewood's DNA results are not back yet,
and no one is willing to comment on when it is back, or even if they are sure James Daniels III is
the same person that raped a Lakewood woman while running at 4am on Warren Road.

So, be safe.

The Lakewood rape occurred 2 days before the rape in Cleveland. Why is it taking so long to get the DNA results. When were they sent ? Where were they sent?

I spoke with Chief Mal;ley of the Lakewood Police moments ago, and asked...

JO "Has anyone been charge yet with the Warren Road rape?"

Chief Malley "No."

JO "Are you leaning towards thinking the Westside Cleveland rapist is your man?"

Chief Malley "we are looking at the evidence, I would still ask people to use caution and keep an eye out."

So there you have it, until it is announced, be safe.

Scott

I am at Lakewood Police Headquarters right now waiting for the announcement. As other news sources have announced
other "facts" in this case that proved untrue, I was thinking of waiting until the actual announcement to put it out there.

Stay tuned...

There is never any attempt to hide or mislead regarding police activity. The reporter from Cleveland .com was on vacation and did not pick this up from Crimes.com, the place where these are posted. The Victim helped develop a sketch, which took a few days. A weekend intervened, delaying the release further. We did place the sketch on our website and released it to the media on Sept 9th. The second similar crime in Cleveland came to our attention on September 9th.

Amy the Mayor of Lakewood lied to you.

Crime.com and/or crimes.com are not real sites. Both sites are for sale, neither is operational.

So while "a two person crime wave" as describe by Cuyahogoa Prosecuter Tim McGinty, was causing other rapes, break ins,
assualts, etc. The mayor instead of doing the prudent safe thing, and warning the community was waiting for his favorite
reporter to come back from vacation. Because he could not report them anywhere at Crime.com and he told you he did.

For the record, the moment the Obserrver got the information, ten minutes later it was posted and blasted out through all
of our sites, and emails. We put 12,000 papers on the street, and have over 6,800 members through our various websites.
The mayor, nor City Hall ever reached out the "The Media" another complete lie.

He decided to sit on the information while his shill was on Vacation. 1 more, maybe 2 more rapes, and who knows how
many assaults and break-ins by the rapist and his brother, while the Mayor did NOTHING!

So not only did the mayor write one of the most insensitive letters I have read from a Mayor,
it was factually not correct and he knew it.

Except maybe waiting for his one and only favorite reporter.
Time for a reality check at City Hall.
