Lakewood's Big Football Weekend

Post by Michael Deneen »

Big News!
I just got back from Byers Field in Parma....the Rangers won their opening game of the season. They beat Parma 14-13, winning the first game of the Mike Ribar Era.

Parma scored a touchdown in the final minute, but the extra point was blocked.
It was a very nice effort all around.

Also, my sources tell me that the ESPN trucks will hit town very early Sunday morning for the nationally televised St. Ed game from FFL Stadium.
Kickoff is at 4pm and will be on ESPNU.
If you'd like to attend (and maybe get on TV), tickets are $7.

I'll have reports on both these stories in the next print issue.

Mike

Great news as I had made $100 bet, and lunch with one of the publishers of the Parma
Observer. I can taste the Lobster Bisque soup at Pier W already!

Good work Lakewood Varsity Football.

The Parma Observer must not cover sports.
The Parma High Athletic Department wouldn't even give me a press credential....the LHS staff explained things to them, but the Parma Athletic Department apparently thinks the Observer is a fake news organization.

I had to pay to get in...which means I'm entitled to $9 of JOB's $100 winnings.

I can't believe how clueless they are.
I've had no trouble getting access or credentials from other places....even including the OHSAA and the Northwestern Athletic Dept.

Ironically, the PD never even sent a reporter....even though this game featured the two largest suburbs in Cuyahoga County.
There is no writeup in the paper and only a few sentences on cleveland.com

Mike,

Let's not forget that, when ESPN wanted sports, they came to the "LO News Crew" ... not the PD ...

The St. Ed game went off very well.
Unlike Parma, I was given a media pass with full access to sidelines, press box, and TV production.
Local luminaries Bernie Kosar and Mark Shapiro were among those in attendance.

My story has been submitted for the next issue.
Here is a photo gallery.

Please note: I am still awaiting photos for the Friday Lakewood game from my source. If anyone has pictures they would like to donate for the print issue, please send them to me or submit through the Member Center.

Mike, had you called, I would have gotten you the credentials.

Ironically the Parma paper is the opposite of the Lakewood Paper. Massive support from the
city where the mayor and council president have standing columns and includes them in
everything. But Dan McCathy Editor has not reached into schools like we have here. However
one of the schoold board members writes a column each issue on school tips. A call does
wonders and press credentials.

I can kick you $10 for the ticket.

I received and submitted a couple LHS photos this morning, hopefully they made it in time for publication.

I know the publisher of the paper, Mike.

Do you want me to make a call for you?

Jim and Mike,

In the spirit of “I have an idea for you, not me,” is there a way we can have a section for league standings in the paper for each LHS sport?
