Negativity On The Deck

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

  Why is it that those who complain about Negativity on the deck are always the ones complaining?

It seems to me that there are a certain number of Lakewoodites that can actually carry on
a discussion without seeing the other person as negative. And even if they are deemed
negative, why wouldn't a person want to understand why? I mean I know why they
don't want to understand it is the same reason people are afraid to talk about religion.

Today, I am branded again as negative because I am questioning the "chicanes" on Woodward.
Also please note I mentioned the people I talked to that wanted them. I talked about those
wishing to wait and see. and those that figure they have lost $30,000 since McDonald's
moved there. I came up with at least two ideas that make this idea safer and better, and
would encourage anyone with an idea to make this street safer to bring it up.

This is not negativity, it is healthy civic discourse, and it is good for a community and a
great way to move a city forward. Many would say in a democracy, civic discourse is
welcomed. But if you are trying to shut down the free flow of ideas, if for some reason
you think you are "smarter" than the rest, than maybe the Deck is not for you. However
if you really believe in your thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and information, bring it.

Jim,

I was just discussing with a good friend the fact that residents are simply afraid to stand up for themselves when bullied by City Hall.

Many residents think of their relationship with City Hall as:
