Peter,
I think Jim needs to remind you of the nature of this project.

Matt - I'm not Jim's (nor anyone else's) "bitch." I never agreed to drink anyone's koolaid. Nor do I want to learn any Club's secret handshake. I've done pretty well being my own man and thinking for myself.

Peter,
I think the idea is that folks share what's going on in this town - on the Deck and in The Lakewood Observer - because we can't all be everywhere at once.
And frankly, if Lakewood lemmings continue to just "read about it" instead of being involved, they will be reading about Our City being a very different Lakewood very soon.

Peter,
Informed discussion is always good, but we rely upon folks like you to keep us informed because City Hall won't.
And, I'm always saddened when folks start scorching the choir.

In all seriousness, you and I have gone more than a few rounds on this "city charter review commission" issue.
I still think it should be called a "city manager review commission" but I really do value the observations folks share from attending these meetings - including Peter.
And I'm hoping those folks who participate on the commission - whatever we call it - will jump in here and share their observations as well - including Steve.
The Second Amended Charter of the City of Lakewood wrote:ARTICLE XXIII. GENERAL PROVISIONS
SECTION 8. CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION.
In January of 2004 and of each tenth year thereafter, nine electors of the City shall be appointed as members of a Charter Review Commission pursuant to this Section. Five members of the Commission shall be appointed by Council, and four members of the Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor. Members of the Commission shall not hold any other office or position of employment with the City. The Commission shall review the Charter and within six months after the appointment of its members, may recommend to Council by a two-thirds vote of the members of the Commission, revisions and amendments to this Charter. Council may submit any proposed amendments recommended by the Commission to a vote of the people in the manner provided under this Charter and the State Constitution. Such amendments shall be in the form as provided by Council.

You just gotta poke around.

So, when is this commission going to bring in experienced, successful mayors to discuss why the mayoral system is better than the city managerial system?

Update: To prove that this is not simply a faux process to force a city manager upon the residents, City Hall has invited the following mayors to share the benefits of the mayoral system with the commission:
Risking the wrath of Peter, I need to ask, "Any observations from the last meeting?"
I'm hearing rumblings that the "City Manager Review Commission" rejected the city manager model thus leaving the field open for Tom Bullock and Dru Siley to run for mayor.
Is there any truth to this rumor?
What was the vote?
Who voted for and against the city manager model?
And, when will the "City Charter Review Commission" start reviewing the city charter?
That comment is intended to flush out my friend Steve Davis.
The vote to look at City Manager form of government was voted down 5 to 4. I believe it needed a majority to be discussed and 2/3rds to make it to council. So one could say it was turned down handily and soundly.
So where does this leave all of that talk of a FIX, and a FAUX COMMITTEE?
Just saying Matt.
