Auto Racing Comes To Lakewood, Gentleman Start Your...

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

This past weekend 25 drivers entered a local street race, going head to head
in the same kind of feud offered up in the movie "Rush."

Drivers that have raced head to head for years now, desperately wanting to get
to the front of the field and claim the top spot of the podium.

This group however has a wonderful lunch and party before the racing starts, so
while it is all fun and games, and interesting talking with the drivers, their friends and
family, when it is time to drop the flag, these guys are all about speed, racing and winning.

That's right, it was once again time for Cub Scout Pack 68 to have their Pinewood Derby Race!

The cars all hand built ready to go.

The Scouts-- they could come up to the guardrail.

Great time was had by all.

There has to be a winner. After all this is why we race.
Overall Winner was Dillion Feiler, a Webelo 2.

Thank you to Cub Scout Pack 68 for their generous invitation, it did take me back
to my days of rallying and racing.

A great Lakewood event!

What a GREAT posting! :D

What GREAT memories too, of my dad helping me to build my own Pinewood Derby car. Still have it somewhere up in the attic. At that time, (and in that same church hall) my Cub pack was known as Pack 80.

Same type of big crowd as these days, as well.

This says so much about what's REALLY important in Lakewood! :D

This would probably be a good opportunity to remind people that it's never too late to register as an adult volunteer in Scouting. Your help would always be appreciated. :D

Jim O'Bryan is the 'Wood's unsung ambassador of all good things Lakewood!

Jim spends countless hours attending countless events throughout Lakewood and creating a historical (and often hysterical) record for countless generations to enjoy.

Thank you, Jim.

All the scouts enjoyed your visit.

And, Gary, I'll be calling you soon about helping our scouts earn their showman badges.

Bring the banjo!

It's kinda hard to explain to grown-ups that they can have as much or more fun in Scouting as adults than they had when they were young. :D

Aside from the obviously wonderful feeling that one gets from helping others, particularly children, the adult Scouter finds that they are around a whole bunch of positive thinking, "can-do-it" "lets-get-it-done-and-done-right" adults...Like Mr. Markling! :D

Being around fine solution-oriented people can make a world of difference in one's own life as well. :D

It's real simple in the adult world. You are either part of life's problems, or life's solutions.

Adult Scouters are solution-oriented people. :D

Back to the banjo. :D
