The "Lakewood brand", if I interpret the O'Bryan gospel correctly, is "clean, safe, and fun".
Lakewood also prides itself on education at all levels, ranging from the Lakewood City Schools to its post-secondary schools like Virginia Marti and UAL.
St. Edward represents these elements, and brings the name "Lakewood" to statewide audience.
Although it is operated by the Brothers of the Holy Cross (thankfully not the Cleveland Diocese), it is very much a Lakewood institution.
The same goes for all of our Lakewood churches and parochial schools.
When the Diocese closed St. James, it was Lakewoodites who lobbied the Vatican to bring it back.
A fun story about the "Lakewood brand".....in the summer of 1982 I went to visit my sister at Northwestern.
I met then-NU football coach Dennis Green (yes, that Dennis Green) after a practice.
He asked where I went to school, I said "I'm starting next month at St. Ed's".
He replied "you mean Lakewood St. Edward?"

That game last night was bar none one of the best televised sporting events I have watched in a LONG time. Outstanding basketball, some amazing turns of events, overtime thriller, and NO COMMERCIALS! Everyone involved should be extremely proud of what took place. It started out like UA was gonna make it a boring affair, but they sped up the game in the second half, and both teams just played lights out. That last-second prayer of a three-pointer was breathtaking! I've seen some great contests. Jack winning the Masters in 1986. Overtime vs. the Jets and The Drive (both games in person) and The Fumble (on TV). The Shot (also on TV). Miracle on Ice (on TV). This one ranks right up there, like Mike said just an amazing game.
