City to Spend $1.5 on Lakewood Park Improvements

It seems like a good idea to me.

I wonder if the County will throw in some money? $1.5 million is a lot less than the County spent on the Chandelier on Euclid.

It's one of those little mysteries. The County is willing to spend hundreds of millions to subsidize downtown development to entice people to live where they don't want to live but can't spend 10 cents on enhancing neighborhoods where people ARE living.

Really liking this idea. The most neglected part of Lakewood is Lake access. I am guessing they are not planning on changing the actual areas where the water meets land, which is currently the giant concrete chunks serving as a breakwall - which you cannot walk on to actually come in contact with the lake.

Lakewood Park shore line as it is now.
My father lived on Abbieshire as a kid they bought the house and returned in the mid 50's.
He told me stories of when the shoreline ended where the Woman's Pavilion is now.
The additional land is all from landfill.
Lakewood Park is one of Lakewood's finest gems and anything we can do to enhance it's beauty and attraction will only boost Lakewood's allure.
I am all for it!!!

Great photo!

I do find it odd we are spending $1.5 million so that we can look but not enter the water. How much
would it cost to actually allow Lakewoodites to play in the Lake? Perhaps we could buy Clifton Beach
for $1.5 million, and open it up. Eminent domain for parks is certainly legal. $1.5 mill divided by
the share holders(residents) of Clifton Park about $10,000 a household.

Also most of the park is landfill from the 50s and 60s, which means anything and everything, it is
not dirt. I know that stoves, refrigerators, and other "garbage" was used as fill. Do we want to
disturb who knows what.

I like thinking of others and letting all of us enjoy the lake, but...
