After School Activities Cancelled

Post by Ryan Salo »

I just received a call and text saying all rec and after school activities tonight are cancelled. I find that odd. The roads and weather were significantly worse this morning. Also - parents who need to pick kids up earlier now have little to no notice to rearrange their schedules to get there in time.

I wonder what the logic was...

I lay a lot of the blame on illogical behavior on social media, and those that take it seriously!

All morning parents have been tweeting and posting on FB "I can't believe they made the
kids go to school..."

So they overreact, and cancel activity.

Who wants bad tweets :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Leadership, gone to micro mouthy audiences being mistaken for the entire world.

Guilty of posting on FB here, including:

"It's 2:40PM at Harding and I'm watching a plow try to pull another stuck plow down the impassable sidewalk. So the Supe makes a call based on conditions in one place at one time? Ever hear of lulls in the weather. The forecast said it would do what it did."

Don't know if it was an overreaction or not, but the schools and the areas around them were still in horrible shape when I got my kids.

Jeff,

I know I seem to be complaining a lot but come on, this is Cleveland, it snows, our leaders should be prepared to make the right call the handful of times they need to.

Jeff - you are not overreacting. This morning the schools (that I went to) were not prepared to have students. I almost got stuck at Harding and did get stuck in the back parking lot at LHS and my wife said it was terrible at Lincoln as well.

If they are going to make the kids walk and parents drive, they should at least make sure they have the staff and resources to clear the walkways, parking lots and roads around the schools, if not just cancel.

My bigger issue was with the 30 minute notice they gave parents to come get their kids...

The problem is not yours, it is theirs.

These are simple over reactions to everyone 15 minutes of fame.

I agree with Ryan. Simple plans, that are carried out and not deviated from, so we can all
predict and understand what may and may not constitute snow days or canceled days.
The same is true with laws, make them easy to understand, and enforce them.

I believe the concept of leading, is done from the front, not while on twitter, FB or the Deck.
