Subject: Lakewood Police Academy

The Lakewood Police Department will conduct this year’s Police Academy starting every Wednesday February 5th through April 23rd. The meetings will be held in the police training room starting at 7:00pm. Some of the topics include swat training, police dogs, drug enforcement, the Lakewood Jail and actual firing of hand guns in the range. The class is limited to thirty residents, so sign up soon. To qualify you must:
1. Work or live in Lakewood.
2. Be 21 years of age or older.
3. Have no more than six points on your driving record.
4. Have no felony or serious misdemeanors on your record.
5. All applicants are subject to a background check.

Call Ward Two Officer Angela Ortiz at 216-701-3063 or email her at angela.ortiz@lakewoodoh.net The class will fill up quickly.

Just to be clear: This is the CITIZEN'S Police Academy.

Steve Guttenberg will not be in attendance.
Also, there will not be a black guy making funny noises.


It's a very interesting program, I highly recommend it.
When I took it in 2000, we learned about fingerprinting, toured the entire police department, got certified in CPR, did a police car ridealong, and shot off guns!

Besides all the stuff you learn and do, you get your picture made with Chief Malley and Mayor Summers on "graduation day." :D

I was in the last class (though I don't have my photo handy). To echo Peter, it does fill very quickly. The only reason I think I got in last time was the fact that I know many on the police force from the library. I had some advanced warning.
