How's the recycling thing going?

Any difficulties? We're over in Ward 4 and have not gotten the can yet. Just wondered if anything folks were concerned about (including me) are coming to pass.

Still speaking to the neighbors, no fights in the streets, Lakewood as we know it is not coming to an end as a result or recycling bins.

I used to be able to gauge how much beer i was drinking by how filled my old recycling can was, now i'm lost without that benchmark. I'll be in rehab by the time i figure this out.

All true, however the tougher* streets have not gotten their yet. I anxiously await them on our
street if for no other reasons to see how all the cans will feet with 2 triples and four doubles
within the firs group of houses, and most of the tenants parking on the street.

But it the end it will be worked out.

*Tougher as in congested.

That was my glass half full.

One must remain optimistic.

But the thought of a potential 40 barrels in the first 8 houses, with everyone parking on
the street, should give even the most optimistic person a reason to hold their breath.

On the plus side, the neighbors all love each other so no fist fights projected.

And we are all looking forward to the projected $40,000 a year potential savings, after
the $40,000 a year pays off the $750,000 cost of the barrels. (City Hall numbers)

We had a difficulty the first week, we had too much recycling which is what I was afraid of. When my extra bags were not picked up I called the refuse department and they explained that everything had to fit in the cans. I told him that was going to be impossible for us and whoever it was I spoke to said that was his main concern about the size of the cans. According to him he recommended recycling cans the same size as the trash cans but was overruled by city council. His solution for my family was pretty simple, they brought us an extra recycling can. So unfortunately we now have three cans to drag to the street which will be a pain in the winter but luckily for me I have teenagers to do it. Other than that it's been just fine.

I am in ward 4 - received the ugly blues cans a few weeks ago, now i have two green and two blue cans and not much of a yard to keep them in, but we manage.
no problems, I take them to my curb and they have been picked up/dumped -
much easier than blocking someones parking spot.
I still can not believe the city came up with such a STUPID IDEA TO BLOCK PARKING
SPACES.
I would say if and when they are going to make people block parking spaces -
THE RESIDENTS/CITIZENS OF LAKEWOOD SHOULD BOYCOTT THE CITYS STUPID DECISION AND DO NOT SEIZE THE DAY AND DO NOT SEIZE THE SPACE.
They have no problem picking up at curb side, no need to inconvenience people.

Our neighbor with a three unit just got skipped because a car parked in front of his can at the curb after it was already placed. He had gotten the red shame ticket a couple times. He did not want to block a precious car space with his can, so he gets to look at a full can all week. That's before recycling. Not sure how accommodating they will be for him and his six cans when we do get the bins. we'll see.

We got tagged the first week we had the can, and neither our garbage nor recycling can were picked up that day - due to the car that parked in front of them sometime during the night. The next week it was a neighbor getting tagged. We place them on the tree lawn as close to the driveway apron as possible, but not IN the driveway because we need to use it and not in the street because that just seems like asking for trouble. I've knocked my own can over because it was too close to the street/driveway. But we've had to repeatedly go out and move our cans after midnight because somebody went and parked too close to them after they were out already - not having a parking ban for one night of the week is really ridiculous in my opinion. I do not want to be running outside in the freezing cold at 1 am, or jumping out of bed at 6 am to run outside, just to make sure my garbage is picked up, but that is what we wind up doing most weeks.

As for having a separate can just for recycling, that is handy. I had a garbage can outside for recycling already, which I would use to hold my bagged recycling until pickup day, so this eliminates me trying to get all the recycling out of the can and onto the tree lawn, and so storing an extra can has not had any effect on me.

According to the city website you can put the recycling into the can loose. If it is not in bags it will compact into the space better.
